Americans Buy Enough Guns in Last Two Months to Outfit the Entire Chinese and Indian Armies

The Obama Administration is the number one threat to the nation’s gun rights advocates. In the four years since Barack Obama was first elected president in November 2008, an estimated 67 million firearms have been purchased in the United States. In November a record 2 million guns were sold in America. This was followed up by another record in December. 2.7 million guns were sold in America in the last month of 2012.

Honest Americans Bought Enough Guns in November and December to Outfit the Entire Chinese and Indian Armies

-snip-

To put this in perspective. Chinese and Indian Standing Army Numbers:

China

- There are 2.29 active members in the Chinese Army.

India

- There are 1.13 active members in the Indian Army.

There were enough guns sold in the US in November and December to outfit each active member of the Chinese and Indian armies with a brand new gun.

This is the grand irony,
the libs endlessly complain about gun manufacturers profits, yet they made them skyrocket by successfully electing Obama twice.

Every where I look there’s a number of about 300 million firearms in the possession of US citizens. My gut says that number is low. Articles like this suggest that the number must be higher. Guns don’t age like cars.

Tell me about it. I’ve been looking for a 9mm handgun, and the places are picked over. Given that I’m a fiscal conservative, I’m also frugal, which is slowing down the purchase. (Supply and demand causing prices to rise).

I added the numbers. November and December purchases totaled 1.28 million more than the combined Indian and Chinease armies, meaning he probably could have included the U.S. Army and Marines with a few guns still left over.

Tonight I’m headed over to a real small place a couple towns over to see if I can get a little 7.62x39 ammo for my rifle that I lost due to an unfortunate boating accident. 8^| Just for target practice. Should be interesting to see what he does/doesn’t have in stock.

‘A friend of mine’ who went 55 years of his life without one just bought two guns this month.

[And then lost them in a tragic boating accident]

The store owner was happy he was making a ton of money- even expanded his store open hours temporarily.. but he said he was worried about what would happen to his business AFTER

Does anyone here shoot a 410? Is reloading those shells much cheaper? (I know they are very expensive to begin with, for some reason)

How do 410 shotgun shells compare with .45 bullets? (cost wise) the one gun ‘my friend’ bought is made to shoot both.) [I mean if he hadn’t lost them in the tragic boating accident]

me, too.

was waiting for a more opportune time to add more / (replace the one in the boating accident) ...

doesn't look like the price is EVER going to go down.

if I am any more cynical, we should check the firearm/ammo manufactures’ link to politicians who want to post more gun laws. Every time some thing like this in the air, there is a run on both. Never fails.

I truly hope this is accurate because not a one was purchased so that a gun owner would have something to turn in.

That's funny you should mention it. A relative of mine recently found his cache of weapons. They are hand-me-downs. Some of them are VERY VERY old. 1873 Winchester for instance. There is an M1 Garand in the mix. They are in pretty good condition for the most part. But we are taking them to a gun smith to have them tuned up and ready to shoot. We suspect most have not been fired since at least the 1960s.

To get to your point, however, in a demanding position, I'd run a cloth or two down that M1, jam that loaded steel clip in it and give it a try.

Add a dozen or so weapons to those previously lost in statistics to old age. We are bringing these weapons back up to specs (just for fun and family treasures of course). They will be battle ready...er... I mean ready for the range in about a month. I'll keep these family heirlooms in tip top shape from now until I pass them on.

The United States Citizens KNOW that they're going to have to fight TYRANTS in their own government.
You cannot protect life, without the ability to take life.

While you are WAITING for the police to respond, someone could be losing their life.
All people of a responsible age should be armed.

As EternalVigilance reminded us:

Click here to read the 12 page pamphlet.

Let us NEVER FORGET THAT !

Let's subjugate them to OUR end game, DUST!
"COMPROMISE" is a DIRTY word!
People who study the Bible know that COMPROMISE almost always leads to destruction.

It's time to mock the "Gun Control" Zombies!
"Gun Control" is a firm grip, steady breathing, accurate aim (developed by lots of practice), and a slow trigger pull.

The Swiss have got it CORRECT !
We need to learn from the Swiss and implement their "gun control measures" here in the United States right now, today!
These laws are the ones we should shove into the "2nd Amendment Haters" faces.

The Swiss have got it CORRECT !
Let's adopt THEIR LAWS !

Remember: Read Second Amendment: It’s Not About Hunting, IT'S ABOUT TYRANNY .

Neither the Chinese Army nor the Indian Army is an immediate threat to our individual freedom. The only logical conclusion is that Americans are buying weapons for the obvious reason - because "military style" weapons are, as the Founding Fathers wrote, necessary to the security of a free State. The weapons are to defend American citizens against a more immediate threat than India or China. I hope Vegetius was right: "Igitur qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum" (If you want peace, prepare for war). Like other firearm owners, I want peace. I am skeptical on the intentions of others, so I prepare. The ball is in their court.

I certainly hope plenty of lurking gun grabbers are reading the many pro-freedom posts on FR, including this one. Does the far left fringe really think we have purchased 67,000,000 firearms for the purpose of registering them with the threat they are meant to defend against or handing them over in return for a token payment (of our own tax dollars!)? Do they think those Americans who have fought in wars to defend freedom will allow themselves to be disarmed, will give up the only protection we have for our other freedoms, and will bow down to an unlawful, unconstitutional command?

Clearly the far left can get away with another "assault weapons ban" like the last one - although I hope even the dumbest advocates for disarming law-abiding Americans know that this will be only a symbolic victory. Going further: confiscating private firearms with or without a trivial payment, banning new semiautomatic weapons, restricting ammunition, or requiring registration will result in unpleasant consequences. I hope to avoid such an outcome. It is not clear to me that the far left wants to avoid a second civil war. If they successfully provoke another secession or another civil war, I will be cheering for the real Americans to win, not for the far left.

It would be interesting to know how mny weapons of all types have been inherited, passed down from father to son/daughter, or privately traded/gifted.

It would be no surprise to find that there are 300 million weapons in private hands.

Two of the handguns we bought in November were Taurus Judges. Ammo for them is either .45 Colt (a longer-than .45 ACP) or .410 shells.

The 000 buck .410 shells only have 4 pellets in them - BUT they are each slightly larger than the size of a .38 bullet (.36 for the 000 and .357 for the .38).

Range time was awesome - at 25 feet, there were 4 horizontal holes across the center of the target with each shot.

>> How do 410 shotgun shells compare with .45 bullets? (cost wise) the one gun ‘my friend’ bought is made to shoot both.)

Ah, your friend bought himself a Judge. It’s a shame he wasn’t more careful with his new purchase. :-)

I used to have a Judge, too, before it fell off my truck.

.45LC is kinda pricey handgun ammo, and not always easy to find. I did notice that they at least had some on the shelf at my Academy, last time I looked. I have found dirty Mexican .45LC for about .65/shell. Most of the time it’s more than that.

But it’s not just cost, it’s also effectiveness.

While .410 small shot may be cheaper (50 cents) and is useful for some varmints, IMHO the .45LC is a better defense round. If you’re planning to shoot longer than about ten or fifteen feet, anyway. For defense, don’t even THINK about any shot size smaller than #4, and frankly, #4 is too small too. Think buck. Smaller shot just sprays every whichaway shortly after it leaves that little barrel.

Before I lost my judge, I preferred these for defense: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/AMM-860.

Three 000 pellets. Price is okay relative to other .410, if you can find them. And the pattern is tight-ish out to a reasonable distance.

In fact, I keep ...er, *kept* the judge loaded with three of these (first) plus two Hornady JHP .45LC after those.

Your friend may have been tempted to try .410 slugs, but IMHO they aren’t worth their price ($1 each). If you want to throw just one piece o’ hot lead out of the Judge, use .45LC — cheaper, more accurate, and more effective.

The Judge certainly has its flaws (and plenty of detractors to point them out), but all in all I have... er, *had* a lot of fun with mine.

FRegards

So, what percentage of those weapons were modern carbines like ARs and AKs and modern battle rifles like the FAL or M1A that are on the top of the "to be banned" list?

People are snapping up every modern carbine as soon as it hits a store shelf. A lot of people have been priced out of the modern carbine market and are upgrading and accessorizing what they have - new optics, lights, lasers, rails, etc. One of the items is out of stock everywhere is the Tapco Interfuse SKS stock, used to convert an otherwise prosaic 10 shot fixed magazine SKS into a rifle with a 20 round detachable magazine, rail system and multi-position stock - all features that keep liberals awake nights.

When the first "Assault" weapons "ban" took effect there were about 1.5 million rifles in private hands that fell into that category. Today there are tens of millions. There was also a divide in the gun owner community between the brown rifle and black rifle people. That doesn't exist anymore as far as I can tell. The politicians need to know that any attempt to ban anything will energize a voting block large enough to vote them out of office.

My local Wal-Mart is still receiving shipments of it, and I got word from an acquaintance who works in distribution that WM is still placing automated orders for ammo. They're just having trouble getting it (like everybody else).

That story might have been a scare tactic, I don't know.

Great point! I am sure there are many Americans who carry and/or own several guns from years ago, with none of them registered! One thing Americans will NOT allow to happen is to have our 2nd amendment taken away.

This morning I read a report about a home owner who's home was broken into by criminals that were looking to steal his guns. The home owner was one identified by the Journal News as having guns. The criminals were caught.

I believe it would be fair to publish the names and addresses of all the DEM gun grabbers and the CEO, Editor and board of directors of Journal News to display their gun ownership or lack there of!

They are in pretty good condition for the most part. But we are taking them to a gun smith to have them tuned up and ready to shoot.

Before you visit the gunsmith, you should call and discuss the calibers of the various guns you need checked out. Just to make sure he has the correct headspace gauges on hand for the basic safety check.

Be warned, if you leave a firearm with a gunsmith/FFL for more than 24 hours, they have to input the gun's information in their bound book. So eventually, despite not having seen the light of day since before the '68 Gun Control Act, those firearms will enter the BATFE database if that FFL ever shuts down, or gets raided for (fill in the "official reason" for the federal fishing expedition here), or... well, you get the idea.

Make sure the 'smith checks things out while you wait. If parts replacements are required, take the guns home until the parts shipment arrives.

Hey, it's not paranoia if they really *are* out to get you. ;-)

Fortunately for me, I wasn't looking for .223 on Saturday.

I just got a gun for the first time in my 63 years. I’ve been thinking abotu it for a few years as I watched civil order break down. Last month I decided to get one while I can. Saturday at the Gander Mountain, the gun department looked like a beehive, and, probably due to the popularity of the Taurus Judge, stocks of 410 shells were depleted in Gander Mountain, Wal-Mart, and a local hunting store.
