U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid denied Sunday knowing anything about an alleged attempt to bribe him to intervene in a Federal Trade Commission case.
Jeremy Johnson of Utah told federal investigators he sought to funnel money through an alleged intermediary in hopes of convincing Reid to get the FTC to drop its investigation of him.
"The truth is the worst thing I think I've done was I paid money knowing it was going to influence Harry Reid," Johnson told The Salt Lake Tribune. "So I've felt all along that I've committed bribery of some sort there."
But the Nevada Democrat's office issued a statement distancing Reid from Johnson's claim, the Washington publication Roll Call reported.
"Senator Reid has no knowledge or involvement regarding Mr. Johnson's case," the statement from Reid's office said. "These unsubstantiated allegations implying Senator Reid's involvement are nothing more than innuendo and simply not true."
Federal prosecutors in Utah have charged Johnson with bank fraud, money laundering and other offenses, court records show. The Tribune reported plea negotiations in the case fell apart Friday.
Johnson alleges that before John Swallow was elected Utah attorney general he hooked up Johnson with a businessman named Richard Rawle, now deceased, as someone with ties to Reid.
The Tribune said it was unclear if any money from Johnson ever reached Reid or his political operations, and Swallow denied ever having any financial arrangement with Johnson.
Johnson allegedly believed that in return for $600,000 he would secure Reid's support for getting the FTC to drop its inquiry into an Internet company he operated called I Works. He claims to have paid some of the money, but the FTC investigation went ahead anyway.
And we all know that Senator Reid always tells the truth.
Of course, Mitt Romney didn’t pay taxes for ten years.
“What money? I don’t know about any money. This money in my pocket? No, I don’t know how that got there.”
-Pretty much his behavior.
This should keep the old man busy for a while or he could use the legitimate excuse “I don’t remember”.
It’s been bandied about in True Crime circles that the corrupt Senator from Nevada in Godfather II and was the gaming Commissioner before that was based on Harry Reid.
“I ain’t done nuttin’,” said senator Reid, “I’m a respectable senator who ain’t never taken no bribes or kickbacks, or made any dirty deals, or ripped anybody off, or threatened to have some mooks kneecaps busted, or had my associates shake down hookers, or skimmed from casinos, or swapped gold bars for tungsten, an’ anybody who says otherwise is going to sleep with the fishes!”
I lie, I cheat I steal, I sacrifice unborn babies. I associate with and vote for the rights of sodomites. I call evil good and good evil....I’m Harry Reid and I’m a mormon.
Of course he denies it, he’s a democrat! Even if the cash were found in his freezer, he’d still deny it.
And the rest of the dems and the media will circle the wagon for him.
There seems to be more to this story.....
Is this the Richard Rawle WHO IS NOW DEAD that would have been a key witness in the Reid bribery ?
Was the person asking the question a Federal officer?
It’s the “seriousness of the charge”.
Time for public hearings. Nationally televised. Because we all know Reid has nothing to hide. Right?
I found an obituary that shows a Richard Rawle who died of Cancer in the provo area.
Fear not faithful mormons, I'm sure if Reid deceived them over this and his other evil doings, he will be excommunicated quickly and publicly.
He was quick to point out during the campaign (as spokesman) that Romney was not the spokesman. Nobody from Salt Lake countered him, just like they didn't when he bashed Ezra Taft Benson.
Whore-house Harry Ried rides again!
