Theres Power
January 15, 2013
When my sister found out she had cancer, I asked my friends to pray. When she had surgery, we prayed that the surgeon would be able to remove all of the cancer and that she wouldnt have to undergo chemotherapy or radiation. And God answered yes! When I reported the news, one friend remarked, Im so glad theres power in prayer. I responded, Im thankful that God answered with a yes this time.
James says that the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much (5:16). But does effective and fervent mean the harder we pray, or the more people we ask to pray, the more likely God is to answer with a yes? Ive had enough no and wait answers to wonder about that.
Prayer is powerful, but its such a mystery. Were taught to have faith, to ask earnestly and boldly, to persevere, to be surrendered to His will. Yet God answers in His wisdom and His answers are best. Im just thankful that God wants to hear our hearts and that no matter the answer, He is still good.
I like Ole Hallesbys words: Prayer and helplessness are inseparable. Only those who are helpless can truly pray. . . . Your helplessness is your best prayer. We can do helplessness quite well.
Lord, Ive been taught many things about prayerbe
specific, be bold, be surrendered, be strong in faith,
be persistent. Today I recognize my helplessness and
Your power as I share my heart with You. Amen.
Prayer is the childs helpless cry to the Fathers attentive ear.

I was stationed there from Feb 1977 - Feb 1978. Some beautiful country up there. One year it snowed during the 4th of July fireworks show. Watched that one while wearing my parka. Nice summers, but some very cold winters. I saw -38 without the wind and up to -100 wind chill. I believe they shut down the flight line at -70 or so. During both winters we had up to 2 weeks where the high was still below zero.
To: I Drive Too Fast
Make that until Feb 1979. I was there for 2 years then I went to Kadena AB on Okinawa. Talk about temperature and cultural extremes.

Nice, I visited Malmstrom for a few days in February 1979. All of their grain silo’s had no grain. Just a bunch of minutemen, and they were all underground.

I was stationed there in ‘62. Our job was to get as many sites “in the green” as we could during the Cuban crisis.
It was called the 341st SMW back then. (341st Strategic Missile Wing was then part of SAC)
It was an honor to serve there and years later I was convinced these birds and their crews helped win the cold war.
Met some of the best farmers and ranchers and ordinary Montana people who were all 110 % behind us and our mission.
Hard to believe it’s been fifty years and thank God these silos and launch centers are still there and doing there job for freedom.

YIKES!! You are gonna be cold.
My street is solid ice covered in puddled water. Last night it stayed in the upper 30s, so the main roads, which were dry before this warm spell, were just rain wet and sloppy. Tonight is supposed to be in the 20s. I’m hoping the high winds that have started, which I hate, will dry up some of the standing water.
Stay safe on your way to work.
