I have often posted on FR to try to draw attention to the influence of Jon Stewart over the "minds" of the low-info voter, as Rush calls them. I call them the Jon Stewart Audience. It's not so much that Stewart is a terrible, terrible person, but that so many emulate and admire him. Oh, and don't look up "felcher/felch/felching" on the Urban Dictionary unless you are prepared to be sick. But if you do, consider that this creepy perv has small children...

I’m in my mid 50’s and I’m amazed at how many of my classmates admit to...even brag about...getting most of their news from Jon Stewart. Of course, I went to High School in NJ and most of my classmates are still residents of the Garbage...err Garden State.

I rarely watch his show, I just keep up with what he's saying by doing searches. It is highly instructive and good shorthand for understanding what passes for an intellectual and emotional life among the stoner, slackers and basement-dwellers that seem to be our new ruling class.
I would advise keeping up with what he's doing and saying. It's easy enough; they guy only puts out an hour of content a week.
Most of it is cheap, snide and unremittingly ugly. He looks like Zeppo Marx--I'm old enough to remember when comics could make me laugh. I think about Carol Burnett, Red Skelton and all the comedians of the past that didn't need to say f*** and sh** or invent crude names for bizarre sexual activities to get a ...laugh? It kind of gives me the creeps that people think they're laughing.
And if you listen to his audience, the creep factor goes up. They don't laugh so much as howl and hoot like drunken frat boys, they make the racket to validate Stewart in his crudity and obscenity and cheapness.
Stewart is like an open sore, every day a new runny drip of bacteria--

Krugman is loathsome.
It's too bad Jon Stewart uses his powers for evil instead of good.

Think of the movie "Animal House".
Like most of my generation, I loved that movie and thought it was "cool"
However as I aged, I realized our government has been taken over by the disfunctionaly dangerous, if not psychotic, Delta House. As a movie it was funny but as a governing structure, it is scary.
Jon Stewart, his audience and his politics clearly see themselves as the Delta "cool ones" and conservatives as the white, uptight, fascist Omegas.
However, which "House" would most people would want their children raised?.
As Dean Wormer wisely said:
"Fat drunk and stupid is no way to go though life"
pa. I bought the Carol Burnette DVD for my mother as an Christmas present and i wound up watching them after she finishes one.
Funny without being obscene...

I'm in that age range and I used to watch Stewart back when he could pretend to be apolitical and make fun of both sides.
Back when he was hired as an comedian and used to be funny. Not an political shill and not full of himself....

IMO Her skit about Gone With the Wind, where she makes a dress out of the drapes...rod and all...will always be one of the funniest things ever on TV. I thought her show was great until she practically turned it over to Tim Conway.

I used to work on staff at a major research university and to be in the “cool” club, you had to go home at night and watch the Daily Show. And there was no hesitation to ask newcomers if they liked Jon Stewart. I didn’t make the grade.
Oh, they also were aflutter about “Family Guy,” too. You know, the show by the atheist Seth McFarlane.
