NEW YORK -- Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the world's largest retailer and the nation's largest private employer, is making a pledge to hire every recently discharged veteran who wants a job.

The plan is set to be announced as part of an address delivered in New York on Tuesday at the annual retail industry convention by Bill Simon, president and CEO of Wal-Mart's namesake U.S. business.

I don’t know what our Walmart pays, but I was surprised to find out that they give bonuses. A woman from church worked at Walmart and commented that she was happy to see the influx of students this past September because she would get a bonus on the increased sales for the month.

I know that sometimes it was tight for her, but she managed to support her child and pay her rent, so she was making at least enough to do that.

Every one of these potential “hires” will be put through the “domestic terrorist” screen of the DHS (recall the white paper on this new ‘risk’ group). NO veteran should apply for this crap company. Sure, the healthcare will be from the VA, only one step below obamaomau care, for which they have gotten a waiver. This is a CRAP gesture.

God help our Veterans. And WE should.

You claimed another poster “nailed it” when claiming they eliminated the sales -— that is where I got it from.

As a conservative I shop at Walmart because of low prices and being non union, not because of welfare.

The left really, really hates Walmart.

Many conservatives are affected by the media and fall prey to their constant attacks on Walmart.

According to one website I just saw, Walmart has 2,000,000 employees. This means they plan to increase their work force by 5 percent. Do they really need to add that many employees? I would think the prospect of the extra payroll costs would cause their stock value to go down.

Also - the announcement presumes 100,000 veterans available and willing to work for Walmart. Not sure there are that many out there. Sounds like a PR stunt to me.

Any veteran who takes a job at Walmart after what they are doing with guns, will not be worth the title of “veteran”.

This is a PR ploy to cover their ass for eliminating firearms sales in their stores.

Are you foolishly uninformed, or do you simply play the role in discussion forums?

If I am not mistaken Walmart went public with assertions that any news story about them stopping gun sales or ammo was FALSE

Can someone help me out here?

I hate Walmart because I hate crowds and traffic (not to mention shopping and the Walmart clientelle). The jobs are great for high school students and reducing the dole for welfare rats, but the vets deserve better.

At $7-$10 per hour there is enough attrition that they can hire another 100,000 without actually increasing number of employees.

I don’t think too many vets would want a minimum wage job.

The average Wal-Mart associate makes over $11 an hour. Not that that is a great wage, but it isn’t minimum wage and they are a retailer.

so Walmart wants this generation of veterans to help it sell the goods that are building China’s economy so that the next generation of veterans are facing a stronger China

sounds logical if you spell America as Amerika

I am saying that if Wal-mart is going to be involved with Nazi gun control then this is an obvious ploy to offset that by saying “see how nice we are”. “We are hiring Vets”. I don’t think vets should let them play that game.
