New York Has Gun Deal, With Focus on Mental Ills
NY Times ^ | Jan 14, 2013 | THOMAS KAPLAN and DANNY HAKIM

Posted on 01/15/2013 9:08:46 AM PST by Tirian

...The state Senate, controlled by a coalition of Republicans and a handful of Democrats, approved the legislative package just after 11 p.m. by a lopsided vote of 43 to 18. The Assembly, where Democrats who have been strongly supportive of gun control have an overwhelming majority, planned to vote on the measure Tuesday...

...The expanded ban on assault weapons would broaden the definition of such weapons, banning semiautomatic pistols and rifles with detachable magazines and one military-style feature, as well as semiautomatic shotguns with one military-style feature. New Yorkers who already own such guns could keep them but would be required to register them with the state...

...In an acknowledgment that many people have suggested that part of the solution to gun violence is a better government response to mental illness, the legislation includes not only new restrictions on gun ownership, but also efforts to limit access to guns by the mentally ill

First we create shooting gallery by establishing gun free zones. Then we insure that those who need counseling the most won’t get it. Are liberals really this stupid?

From the article:

“The prospect of being reported to the local authorities, even if they do not have weapons, may be enough to discourage patients with suicidal or homicidal thoughts from seeking treatment or from being honest about their impulses,” he said.

“efforts to limit access to guns by the mentally ill”

With the Federal Government’s confiscation of your physical being via Obamacare, it is pretty easy to just force doctors to declare mental illness for all sorts of political infractions.

Here is the proposed NYS assault weapon ban. Note that since there is a severability clause I suspect the mental health advocates will have some judge throw out the mental health aspects.

Oh, this is going to go far beyond that behavior or mental condition that might cause fearful people concern. Ritalin, Ambien, Trazadone, Nyquil, Dayquil, any NSAID, any mood altering/controlling drug. Diet pills, blood pressure pills, heart pills, about any doggone pill that changes you WILL ALL BE AVAILABLE TO THE ACA (AKA ObamaCare) Federal Medical Database. This WILL be used to grant or deny certain pill users access to whatever strikes the poweratti’s damned fancy...

You heard it here first. Mark my words.

Are the Obama threats about gun restrictions bogus, some sort of diversionary tactic? Where are the facts on Fast & Furious or Benghazi-gate.....Clinton is still MIA...Obama is still spending and asking for more - has also threatened to make EO’s on the debt ceiling if he doesn’t get his way....blaming the Republicans for his failures...if he proceeds with his gun plans via EO’s he is guilty of a constitutional crime and trashing the Constitution....his race still has thousands out of work, he sees the USA as South Side Chicago as does Michelle....congress should get behind Rep. Steve Stockman and move fast should obama move on the Second Amendment.

Yeah, right. The criminals will be showing up at the police station by the bus loads - NOT!
This does nothing to stop the criminal element. They don't care about laws. This is to disarm the INNOCENT because of other peoples criminal actions.

The innocent American gun owners have committed no crime!,yet they're the ones expected to suffer the consequences? THEY have to "pay the price" for what another has done? THEY lose their second ammendment rights because a non-crime has been committed? WTF?

The gun restrictions in this bill are so bogus.

“The expanded ban on assault weapons would broaden the definition of such weapons, banning semiautomatic pistols and rifles with detachable magazines and one military-style feature, as well as semiautomatic shotguns with one military-style feature.”

What will be the “military feature”? A rail for a light, a stock with a pistol style hand grip, a scope rail? Also, magazines down to seven instead of the dreaded ten? Registration for grandfathered owned weapons? My turkey hunting shotgun becomes an assault weapon?

All these restrictions are just harassment of legal good guy owners and do not affect crooks. Registration will put you in the spotlight of cops, arrests for paperwork mistakes and lead to confiscation. The new rules on firearms are part of a long standing liberal, statist agenda - not anti-violence measures.

It isn’t, and the answer is no, the liberals are not stupid.

They know exactly what they are doing and why.

It is the American people who are stupid for electing them. They are the ones who don’t have any idea about anything at all.

b. The desire to own a gun is proof you are a nut.

Yeah they are so stupid they are quickly achieving their goal of civilian disarmament. The right question to ask is are gun owners this pathetic. They deride the libs while they lose their firearms, magazines and ammo. Stand up and fight or bend over and take what you get.

[[With the Federal Government’s confiscation of your physical being via Obamacare, it is pretty easy to just force doctors to declare mental illness for all sorts of political infractions]]

Yup- ALL it WILL take is one health care official to ‘suspect’ a person might be a little ‘too intense’ or ‘two passionate about subjects’ to trigger ‘alarm bells’ i nthe healtch care official’s mind, and that person will secretely be labelled, (without hte patients consent or knowledge) as a ‘possible threat’ to others- it will go into a national database, where doctors all across the coutnry will be made aware of said person and will know isntantly if said person enters their facility (basically the national helath registery will be aq national trackign program) and the info will even be distributed to gun sellers via gocvenrmental mandate, and hwen the ‘background check’ is run, that person will not be able to pass trhe check

OR, the first healthcare official that ‘might suspect soemthing’ will forward that info onto a gov run pstchiatrist who will then order a mental evaluation at which time they will no doubt ‘medically determine’ (fancy term for ‘excersize their extreme bias’) that the person is unfit to own a gun

Years ago, our forefathers in the govenrment tried to implement a sterilization program that sterilized women who were mentally dificient- that didn’t fly with hte public (who at that time all they had to do was yell abotu an issue, and the govrnent backed down- but that is no longer the case today=- today, the government yells, and hte people back down) so they gave up on the idea of sterilization- That pissed them off- ever since then they have been trying to find a way to neuter society so that we becoem passive and dependent- they found that the only way they can neuter society was to pretend they were ‘protecting us all’ by requiring backgroudn checks, bannign certain weapons makign gun free zoens etc-

it’s succeeding- We ARE becoming england once again- Our forefathers who founded htis country, and those who followed and fought for htis coutnry, all did so in vain as today’s Americans will NOT stand up for their rights any logner-

Freddom was good whiel it lasted- but we can kiss that goodbye- it’s been long gone-

Gaffer- I have said this before- there has been a long time push where doctors have been WAY overprescribing anti-depressents for EVERYTHING from backaches, to toenail fungus, claimign that ‘imbalances i nthe seratonin levels can cause all kinds of physical ailments’

I never udnerstood why health care officials were so aggressive abotu tryign to force peopel onto anti-depressents- but it’;sbecoming clear now-

The rwason why I beleive is that now the govenremtn gets to view the records of ALL the peopel who were at one time or antoher prescribed anti-depressents, and the govenrment now gets to say that those persons ‘exhibited signs of mental instability and or swocial problems, which is why they were assigned anti-depressents’ and hte govenrment now gets the ‘right’ to ordwer mental hjealth evaluations (which iof course the person will fail- as htere are a myriad of false diagnosis’ that these victims will not be able to contest

[[It is the American people who are stupid for electing them. They are the ones who don’t have any idea about anything at all]]

I think they know, but don’t have the guts to do anythign about it By all rights- NY’ers shoudl as a massvie whole say “You are not getting one more dime from us from taxes until you agree to stop assaulting our constitutional rights- I said previously that the right term wasnot to ‘be heard’ but to ‘be felt’, and beleive me, this woudl be felt all across the NY assembly- but again, noonme has the guts to do this- folks in greece do it all the time- when they are beign railroaded by their govenrment, they shut down traffic so that goods can’t be delivered, and it cripples the govenrment- and it’s very effective- but herwe in America we do NOT have ther guts to pull this off- so we are just goign to have to coem to terms with the FACT that we are headed into- rapidly headed into a socialist nation where hte citizens only ‘right’ is to obey the govenrment

There is no solution to this, at least not a civil one. Ny could toss out all the democrats and elect republicans in their place and nothing would change. They are the same. This is a shell game and under every shell is another tyrant in a different costume.
