UPDATE 3-Wal-Mart plans $50 billion 'buy American' push
Reuters ^ | January 15, 2013

NEW YORK, Jan 15 (Reuters) - Wal-Mart Stores Inc will buy an additional $50 billion in U.S.-made goods over the next decade in areas like sporting goods and high-end appliances in what the world's largest retailer called a bid to help boost the U.S. economy.

Wal-Mart, the largest private employer in the United States and the world's largest retailer, also said on Tuesday it plans to hire 100,000 newly discharged veterans over the next five years, at a time when the U.S. unemployment rate is at 7.8 percent.

The moves come as the U.S. economy continues to grow slowly 3-1/2 years after the end of a severe recession. An average of $5 billion a year in spending is a drop in the bucket for the $15 trillion U.S. economy, and the question is how many other retailers could do the same.

I freely admit that I am pretty jaded now, but something doesn't pass the smell test here.

First the announcement about hiring Veterans, now the announcement about buying $50 billion of goods ostensibly made in the USA. Color me concerned because my fear is that WalMart is seeming working overtime to stir up Red State support. I really have to wonder of they have capitulated to the Tyrant Obama and agreed to no longer sell guns or ammo once their stock is depleted.

You will recall that very early on Tyrant Obama said that one of his goals was to co-opt retailers like WalMart in his war on the 2nd Amendment.

I hope I am proven wrong, but at this point, I doubt it.

I went to Cabals yesterday just for giggles.

And the Firearm area looked like it had been picked over by Coyotes.

They had NOTHING! Oh sure they had those Super Expensive Shotguns, some .17 HMR ammo and some wired caliber I had never heard of before, 227 or something.

30-30 GONE!

.308 GONE!

.22 GONE!

They had some 5.56 ammo going out the door as I was coming in and it was like 10 Rounds per box at 17.00 bucks a pop, Made in Israel.

That surprised even me, most of their display areas were empty. Normally they keep them pretty full no matter what, not now.

Where they normally keep the AR-Style weapons they had a Bulletin that said "We are not currently taking rain checks for AR Rifles, it is unknown when we will restock. Manufactures cannot keep up with demand. Thank You"

All I can say is WOW!

It means Walmart suppliers will buy stuff from outside and will paste “Made in America” stickers.

I remember when another W tried that for one of his speeches and got caught.

Sounds like more PR spin....Wal Mart has for years forced manufacturers to go to Communist China...or they will not do business with them...Lasko Mfg is a famous Wal Mart/Chi Com victim

Wal Mart is too Free Trade Communist to stop using Communist China. Until pro American tariffs are re introduced...there is no incentive for Wal Mart to get off the Communist Chinese teat

I was in some big box or another over the weekend with the wife and I strolled over to look at ammo stocks. All they had was a few boxes of .30-06 with very heavy bullets inappropriate for local game that have been there for years and a single small stack of 300 WSM. The rest of the aisle was empty.

The fact that the enemy feels forced to plead with retailers to stop selling guns and ammo is telling. The numbers must be astonishing.

I’m note sure where the WM is no longer buying ammo guns thing came from, but I read somewhere that someone who works in the distribution area that they are still ordering ammo, but can’t get enough.

Yeah, and the CEO said they will continue to sell firearms and ammo. It’s really hard to sell something that you don’t put on the shelves. The local Walmarts haven’t had new shipments of ammo in over two months. And they don’t know when they will get some more.

BTW, I ran into an old co-worker who was buying .22’s; but didn’t know the difference between .22Shorts, LR or WMR. Obviously, a newbie in need of a training course.

I remember when I first got out of the Navy (1992) and moved back to Texas from So. California the Wal-Marts were very “Pro-American”, and had “MADE IN THE USA” signs up all over, etc. Of course, that was before the SuperCenter 24 Hrs extravaganzas, too.

$5 billion a year in US made goods is barely a blip on their bank accounts because Walmart does nearly $1 billion A DAY in business.

***
I would not put it past them. Several years ago, I bought something in Walmart that had a “Made in USA” sticker on the outside of the package but a “Made in China” label inside the package. So there will probably be some cheating going on.

Around Christmas time, I bought some premade bows for Christmas wreaths. I try to buy USA goods as much as possible, so I was pleasantly surprised to see a “Made in USA” label. Further inspection, though, showed that it also said “from imported materials”. So, the ribbon was made in China, but the bows were assembled here. Oh, well....

so after enthusiastically participating, sometimes even demanding, the offshoring of U.S. manufacturing to Asia (if you want our giant account YOU WILL move your production to where you can meet our price demands), and then, since 2008 becoming all in for Obama, Walmart what’s to be sure Obama leaves it alone and will try to keep Obama’s favor with it’s “buy America” campaign.

loyal Americans should see the ploy for what it is - pure politics and politics that does not really give a damn about America, unless it’s spelled Amerika.

Be skeptical about the very terse statements from Walmart, and remember its recent meeting. That company is quite government-connected and has indeed been manipulated by socialist political interests in some states (firearms and ammunition selections in some states very limited for years now).
