Obama to get new license plate? (Updated)
The Politico ^ | January 15, 2013 | DONOVAN SLACK

The DC Council wants him to -- specifically one that says "Taxation without Representation."

Two members of the council are headed to the White House to meet with administration officials Friday, and they are bringing the new plate with hopes that President Obama will agree to put it on his limousine. If not permanently, then at least during the Inaugural parade.

"If the president would put the plates on, I think it would lift our spirits," Councilmember Mary M. Cheh told POLITICO. "It's important that people know the situation we're in."

The council unanimously passed a resolution earlier this week outlining the situation -- that DC residents pay roughly $4 billion in federal taxes annually but have no voting representation in Congress -- and resolving that the president should display the plates advertising it.

Former President Bill Clinton had "Taxation without Representation" on his license plate in 2000, when DC first added it to official plates, but President George W. Bush replaced it with another design that omitted the phrase. Obama has so far not had the phrase put back.

Don’t like it? Move to Maryland or Virginia.

It’s not like I am living at City Hall.

Section 8, United States Constitution:

The Congress shall have Power...To exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may, by Cession of particular States, and the Acceptance of Congress, become the Seat of the Government of the United States, and to exercise like Authority over all Places purchased by the Consent of the Legislature of the State in which the Same shall be, for the Erection of Forts, Magazines, Arsenals, dock-Yards, and other needful Buildings...

This is yet one more item that would require a constitutional amendment to achieve, something that is rather unlikely, considering there is no real need for the District of Columbia to have the same powers as a state.

Conclusion: If you don't like not having representation in Congress because you have decided to live in D.C., then move.

They choose to live in that hell hole. They get a lot more than 4 billion back from all of us.

We are the ones who only have token representation.

If you ask any of the city council of DC how the District was created or why it was created in such a fashion....none will answer in a public forum. That’s one of the more comic features of the DC council.

They want a full-time absolute representative in Congress, and would really enjoy having two senators. The Constitution is written in such a way that without state status....it’s practically impossible to get a Representative. I would agree that they have a population related to North Dakota presently....but the status thing that was originally dreamed up...is what keeps me from supporting such an idea.

Down with Representation Without Taxation! That would eliminate about 50% of the Democrat voters.

The REST of Amerika is being taxed up the ass, and we have NO REPRESENTATION in Washington, either ! We can vote, but the parasidic inner-city tribal members out-vote and out-Fraud the rest of the population, along with Union suckasses......

The council unanimously passed a resolution earlier this week outlining the situation -- that DC residents pay roughly $4 billion in federal taxes annually but have no voting representation in Congress -- and resolving that the president should display the plates advertising it.

I think the solution is very simple. The Federal Government seeds the land back to the State of Maryland, who seeded it to them 200+ years ago. Maryland gets 600,000 new citizens (and their tax dollars), DC gets a rep in congress, and the Congress has nothing to do with trying to manage that disfunctional hell hole any longer.

And if we get some intelligence in the government, we can start relocating (out sourcing) some of the agencies out of that hell-hole of corruption into lower cost states.

With instant communications, there is no longer a need for every federal department to be have their headquarters in that screwed up town.
