Nearly six in 10 Americans want stricter gun laws in the aftermath of last month's deadly school shooting in Connecticut, with majorities favoring a nationwide ban on military-style, rapid-fire weapons and limits on gun violence depicted in video games, movies and TV shows, according to a new Associated Press-GfK poll.

A lopsided 84 percent of adults would like to see the establishment of a federal standard for background checks for people buying guns at gun shows, the poll showed.

Three-quarters of Americans said they reacted to the Connecticut massacre with deep anger, while 54 percent said they felt deeply ashamed it could happen in the United States.

President Barack Obama was set Wednesday to unveil a wide-ranging package of steps for reducing gun violence, expected to include a proposed ban on assault weapons, limits on the capacity of ammunition magazines and universal background checks for gun sales.

If 6 in 10 favored bringing back slavery in America, but enslaving the Jews this time, the far left would probably approve of that too. Our God-given human rights are not up for a vote.

from the article... Mandatory background checks also would help, as would mandatory prison sentences for those convicted of gun grimes, said Lude, a National Rifle Association member and hunter-safety instructor.

I wonder where they did the poll - among the staff of the NY Times?

6 out of 10 Americans can go to hell as far as I’m concerned.

None of those measures would have prevented those shootings.

Yet, on the other hand we see CCW being passed in almost every State.

Even if true, they still won’t be able to muster enough congresscritters to pass it or enough states to ratify an amendment.

“Military-style, rapid-fire”

Um... full-auto is already essentially banned.

And .. besides that.. it`s a wave of “media”-abetted, “gotta-do-SOMETHING” emotion. like everything else, it`ll die back down.

You forget Satan has his back...: )

Would you have ever guessed ANY past (white)t president would have infringed on The Constitution or committed the atrocities he has and gotten away with it? He know he will not be able to get away with this next year when the American people wake up when they get their higher tax bills and a bill for Obamacare and realize this guy isn’t kidding; everyone but the elites are going to foot the bill for them...

Two other polls showed a majority opposed to bringing back an assault weapons ban nationally. But this poll and another show the result flipped.

As near as I can tell, it boils down to whether or not the phrase “military-style” is used in the poll question. Guessing that’s the buzz word used to scare people into getting the propaganda poll results they want.

Don’t count that poll as factual because AP seems to be the arm of the democrats and the talking points. They call the people they want responding, I suspect. This overreach is all over the net. This global BS free gun zone is out of hand.

Lord. That means about 10 percent who did NOT vote for Obama agrees with him on this issue. We are in deep trouble folks.

The whole point of this country is: individual rights are not subject to the whim of an ignorant/bigoted majority.
