White House slams NRA ad using Obama daughters to criticize new gun laws

The White House on Wednesday blasted a web ad released by the National Rifle Association using President Barack Obama’s daughters to criticize the president on gun control as “repugnant and cowardly."

The NRA released the ad Tuesday, a day before Obama announced a package of proposals aimed at curbing gun violence in the wake of a mass shooting in Newtown, Conn., last month.

In strikingly personal terms, the ad calls Obama an "elitist hypocrite" for allowing Secret Service protection for daughters even as he calls for tighter gun laws.

"Why is [Obama] skeptical about putting armed security in schools when his kids are protected by armed guards at their school?" the ad asks.

As the president's children, Malia and Sasha Obama are entitled to Secret Service protection. Obama has never said he opposes more armed security guards at school, which the NRA recommended in the wake of the Newtown massacre. But the president has said such a step is not sufficient in curbing gun danger.

Is it just my age (56), or is that red dress inappropriate for the age of the child and the occasion?

Parents who think that the lives of their children do not deserve the same degree of protection as what Obama’s children receive should not be parents.

The whole scene is inappropriate.

The NRA should run an ad of kids whose parents saved them by shooting home invaders.

Want to use the “if one life can be saved” meme, Soetoro? Bring it.

Of course, the whole scene is inappropriate.

It just struck me that, a parent who would dress a child in that manner, must not have a wick in their lamp. Being liberals, they are short enough on brains as it is, but exploiting their own children...damn.

It’s inappropriate but no one knows the difference anymore. Remember the college kids that wore flip flops when meeting President Bush? People look horrible all the time now on airplanes just everywhere.

I agree. The ad didn't bother me and it's true, but I would like for the NRA to focus on Congressmen and women, actors, rich liberals, idiots like the Kardashians and maybe point out the other elitist that have kids at Sidwell that are all protected by guns. For example, does Chuck Schumer have armed protection? That's what I want to know.

Inappropriate? No, she was invited to the Obama cocktail party afterwards.

Agree re the dress.

At the prez speech today , in the front row, were the parents of one of the Sandy Hook victims, with purple ribbons, positively BEAMING,at the President.

That struck me as very odd. you lose your child four weeks ago, and you are at a televised press conference looking giddy?

There was a lot of “inappropriate” going around today.

True enough.

I remember getting dressed “up” for an airplane trip.

Among other mannerly actions that now seem defunct.

Liberals have no shame. No sense of real love or compassion.

I can't imagine losing a child. I know I lost my dear, dear, brother and cried every night for a year and on occasion ever since.

I could not have gone to such an event , even with a President I admired at the helm-and been able to keep myself together.

Do these people have no soul?
