Pregnant women in one southwestern Pennsylvania town will soon need to look elsewhere to deliver their babies, after a local hospital announced it will end the practice in March -- blaming ObamaCare in part for the decision.
The Windber Medical Center will stop delivering babies after March 31 because its obstetricians are either leaving or refocusing their practices, and because hospital officials believe they can't afford it based on projected reimbursements under looming federal health care reforms.
In a lengthy statement posted to its website Wednesday, the hospital cited several reasons for the decision -- including a claim that the population of women of child-bearing age is dropping and that the number of births the hospital would be called upon to perform isn't enough for it to provide the service in the face of lower reimbursements under the federal Affordable Care Act.

In relaten news, Celeberties called on the public to ‘Go RETRO!” and embrace the” Environmentally correct ans sustainable home childbirth practices of their Great Grandmothers.
Lifetime for Women leaked news of an upcoming series focusing on the sheer joy of unmedicated childbirth of a family whose 14 children were born in an abandoned barn.
A hospital performing births?
That is such *odd* language.
There have been problems with trying to get obstetricians for a long time. Too many tort lawyers driving up malpractice premiums. Now, Obamacare is rationing healthcare (by holding down reimbursements). How long until we all decide to get government out of healthcare and reform tort law?
A hospital..no longer delivering babies..because of Obamacare..but wait..I thought Obamacare would cut the cost of healthcare/sarc
Perhaps if instead of delivering babies, they were performing abortions the Dems would do everything in their power to make sure it continued
I don’t know how representative that is: these kind of things vary from one area to another. The obstetrics unit of our local hospital is constantly enlarging and was out of beds entirely Sunday night. Also had to borrow obstetricians Wednesday or Thursday from another hospital (they have privileges back and forth).
I noticed in the article Windber Medical Center delivers around 200 babies a year. That is really low. I am in a town of 50,000 (Washington State) and the hospital I spoke of above delivers 2,200/yr.
UPS still has good delivery rates.....
...can arrange to leave on the porch without a signature.....
I wonder how my niece, who’s in the second year of her OB/GYN residency in Philly and was a big Obama fan back in 2008, is faring these days - I sure hope she isn’t having second thoughts.........

She’ll be fast-tracked through med school , Obama needs more abortionists... maybe she can take over 3801 Lancaster..
See Obama lowered the cost! Now it costs 0....
Since these government reimbursements are for births, I assume this in reference to Medicaid payments. Shouldn’t lower Medicaid spending be a good thing?
She’s done med school already - interestingly I heard a vague story from my sister (her mother - all a Christian evangelical family) a few years ago that she had won a battle while in school by refusing to perform an abortion which was supposed to be part of her training - apparently the faculty relented and respected her stand - another reason I’m so concerned that she may be taking a second look at O......
“How long until we all decide to get government out of healthcare and reform tort law?”
We just have to remind our socialist leaders that socialism means equality. It follows from this that our lawmakers, from the president on down, must have the same Obama care we, their subjects receive. If we’re serious about this, Obama and friends will have to either take their place in line with the rest of us, or get government out of healthcare. If we’re just like to bitch, we’ll have to wait until hell freezes over.
There is also another factor, American Dr's are dropping like flies in Western PA. Its becoming more difficult to understand "your" doctor in these parts anymore (wonder how the insurance companies really feel about THAT?!!)
Ping the State.
I see the sarc tag, but think about it. When Obama said Obamacare would cut costs, what he was really saying was Obamacare was going to cut PAYMENTS to the professionals that deliver service. It had nothing to do with cutting costs. As a result, the cost of insurance will go through the roof.
PA Ping!

You’re right. They look at taxes as revenue, and gov’t outlays as costs.
They’ve taken the words from the business world and inverted them to reflect things from their point of view, looking out from their taxpayer-funded windows.
