The state must declare the child to be the most precious treasure of the people. As long as the government is perceived as working for the benefit of the children, the people will happily endure almost any curtailment of liberty and almost any deprivation.” - Adolph Hitler, Mein Kampf

“This is our first task as a society...keeping our children safe.” - Barack Obama

Enough said.

The parents went on Piers Morgan??? I would think given the horrible tragedy that was inflicted upon them, they’d have more things to do and think about than going on a cheap, exploitive tv chat show. But everyone needs their 15 minutes, I guess.

We should be able to have a rational conversation in this country about policies that could prevent another Sandy Hook.

No "solution" imaginable, could, absolutely, prevent another Sandy Hook - none. Banning outright the sale, manufacture or importation wouldn't do it, the only solution that would even come close is anathema to liberals and that is to arm every able bodied citizen.

Emotion appeals to the weakest who cannot THINK beyond their feelings, and this applies to a majority in our society. Until people are faced with a collapse of their little worlds, they will not grow up. Our Nation has become a nation of children who cower and need to be coddled in order to function. The Gene pool will reassert itself at some point in the distant future; it may be in a new civilization as the history of city and nation states show that the people become ruinous unto themselves left to their emotional state.

Twenty seconds into this MSNBC news item, the facts of "assault" weapons come out after a "complex" investigation.

Is it possible that some mental health professional released him into the custody of his mother certifying that he was not a threat to himself or society?

I believe the doctor who certifies that a mental patient can be released and not hurt others or himself should be held accountable for the killings the released patient commits. Make the doctor's release of the patient from custody a true responsibility with accountability. Same goes for judges of the court.
