DENVER (CBS4) Colorado state lawmakers arent waiting for Congress to take action on gun control they are moving on their own.
In just eight days, four gun bills have been introduced at the state Capitol, and there are at least four others yet to come. But despite the national outcry and despite Democrats being in control this session, getting any gun legislation done in Colorado will be an uphill battle.
Not since Columbine has a major gun control bill passed in Colorado.
I know going to be fighting very, very hard to make sure that we get something done, said Rep. Rhonda Fields, D-Aurora.
How does a limit on high-capacity magazines reduce violence? Democratic Senate President John Morse said.
Morse said hes not convinced fewer bullets or more background checks are the answer, and Republicans sure dont think so.
Honestly, its like giving a cancer patient a placebo. It wont help them. It might make them think your helping them, but it wont make kids safer at school, said Sen. Greg Brophy, R-Wray.
Brophy and the GOP are instead pushing bills that would make some businesses liable if they dont have armed guards; and allow teachers to carry concealed weapons. So far, those bills arent going anywhere at the Capitol.

So far, you know, weve just said, Lets add more guns. And all thats going to do is add more shootings, Morse said.
Morse would like a ban on assault weapons, but even if that gets done, Gov. John Hickenlooper may veto it.
I agree that figuring out how to ban assault weapons is a very difficult issue, Morse said.
Fields remains hopeful.
I think we have a responsibility to do something, and doing nothing is just not an option for me, Fields said.
Fields and Morse say theyre receiving 20-plus calls and emails a day on both sides of the debate. The governors office has been flooded with calls as well.
So far, the only legislation Hickenlooper has said he supports is the background checks, and right now its the only bill that has a good chance of passing.
Give it up you Denver/Aurora liberal. You're going to lose.

Misleading. All of them are pro 2nd Amendment bills while Dem liberal Fields gun grab bills are the ones sitting on the sidelines.
This is where the battle should be fought - in the States. I’ll at listen to any proposal in my State but I oppose on principle, a principle this country was founded on, any Federal regulation no matter how seemingly innocuous or reasonable.
What a stupid comment. Politicians don't FIGHT, they talk. They vote. They spend other people's money on credit. They spread rumors, and scheme and they lie.
Fighting is what happens when the people have finally had enough.
If the pro 2A bills gothrough and I end up monetarily able to move, I’m heading that way.
NY state is becoming worse.
It hasn't been too long since CO's Senators and congressmen could be counted on to vote against any restrictive gun bill in Congress. I have heard that it's due to way too may new people from CA and liberal NE states moving there. That's what happened to FL, and it's the main reason why I moved to GA from my home state of FL 16 years ago. Unfortunately we're getting loads of people from CA and those same NE states coming here too. I may have to start scouting around for a state that doesn't attract liberals from states like CA and the NE states they have already ruined and now want to get away from.
Agenda: Grinding America Down. If you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem republicans.
