Tonight's episode of "Amish Mafia" was devoted to attempting to defend the show against the critics who claim it is fake.
The cast were asked questions like "Are you really Amish?." "How can you be Amish and go to jail?" and "Why did you decide to do the show?"
Esther said she was "sick of how Amish communities are looked at. I'm sick of how we're portrayed, that we're all the same - these humble innocent people." She can be happy now, because no one who has watched the show thinks she is any of those things

Gotta go.....time for milking.
And “professional” wrestling shows are real too!

Thanks PJ.
There may be some Amish that are not as we often think....people are people...but there is NO WAY this show is anywhere near real.
I loved the over the top anger of the participants at the notion that the show could in any way be fake. Yeah, like an Amish horse buggy decked out with a stereo system and flat screen TV.
I saw part of this show once and am sorry I wasted 10 minutes of my life on it. Every one of these reality shows is contrived and fake — they build up drama and conflict that is not there. I had hoped they were a fad that would have been gone by now but sadly, there are more around now than ever. Its yet another reason to not have cable TV.
I only watch the last two or three minutes of this waiting for “Moonshiners” to come on. At least I know that show is fake. Entertaining but fake.
I’m missing out on so much that matters to conservatives in America these days since I cancelled cable TV. No satellite receiver either; just O-T-A.
Thanks for keeping your fellow FReepers up-to-date.
Well, the midget Amish guy did make me laugh. But why wasn’t he arrested for vandalism after he smashed the windshield of Lebanon Levi with a sledgehammer?
I grew up with the Amish in Pennsylvania. Meyersdale (non-tourist towns). I know them as neighbors, and I grew up alongside their culture.
they would NEVER, EVER do the things depicted in this show. They are pacifists, friendly as anything, and the word “Debt” isn’t in their culture.
They do, however, have TVs, computers, and trucks. All of these things are ok (Although they think things like TVs and computers are just stupid) as long as they are powered by something that isn’t buried. They don’t go below the level of the dirt - To do so is to tempt death.
The computers are usually used to ... Well, wait. The town computer is usually used to host websites to sell their goods online. They keep it out of view of the customers.
The Amish are surprisingly normal people. They have shunned these technologies because they think most of the stuff out there is stupid. I tend to agree.
Yeah, you’d never find that in real Amish buggies.
Maybe a car battery to power primitive marker lights ON the buggy, but that’s about it.
Any tools they use that are ‘powered’ use compressed air.
I have a relative down Amish country way in PA.
They don’t have a phone.
No, I don’t contact them.
They like their privacy.
Wonder what they’d think of this “show”?
LOL.
LOL. You are right. I am amazed when I see threads here about some celebrity foible go over 100 posts, yet a thread on Christians in the Middle East being persecuted, unto murder, get maybe 3. Lester Roloff was a prophet when he called the TV, the “idiot box”, way back when all it showed was “I Love Lucy”.
I’ve blocked the Discovery channel, MTV, VH1, and dozens of other worthless channels that are nothing but “reality TV”. Soon the History Channel will be among them. They don’t tell history anymore, they have stupid fake shows like Pawn Stars, American Pickers, and other worthless reality crap.
TV is a wasteland.
Its actually one of the most entertaining “reality” shows I’ve seen in a while. They actually hit on something pretty good. Maybe next season they can crank it up a notch with Lebanon Levi getting shot in an Amish Drive By.
clip clop clip clop clip clop BANG BANG BANGBANGBANG BANG clip clop clip clop clip clop
It’s not fake? LOLOLOLOL!!
Sure, I’m going be be in a mafia, violate laws and have it on national TV. Law enforcement will never be able to figure out who I am!
Why, that’s just like being a moonshiner...
I watched this show because it was hilarious. It was either totally fake, or the Amish have no rules or no way to enforce them. The laundry list of crimes those clowns comitted would have caught the attention of any cop in the world.
Manti Te’o’s girlfriend tells me that the show is real!
OMG.. I think I just laughed my lungs up.. LOL As a side note, one of the only shows that I watch on most of these networks is American Pickers.. Love that show. It might be fake, but the premise is very appealing to me. Riding around the country (that's patriotic), digging out old Americana to save from the ravages of weather and time (again, patriotic), and making money in the process (capitalistic AND patriotic). Who couldn't love that?
I always wonder why the self-righteous “I don’t watch TV” crowd always feels compelled to show up on these threads and brag that they haven’t seen the show in question. If you haven’t seen it, why would you think anybody would want to hear what you think?
My friend's goofy sister must be related to her somehow. "It can't be fake! It's a REALITY show!"
I saw a commercial for this over Christmas. I think the fact they don’t have beards is a givaway. Also there was a show about rednecks building an illegal still. I am supposed to believe that the network found these rednecks and paid them to do something illegal, and they film it for everyone to see?
Esther using jail house slang cracks me up too. She says Merlin is “Straight up crazy”.
One wonders how they plant their crops.

The real mafia must watch it for laughs.
Coming from a person who believes 100% in Ghost Adventures and The Dead Files I can say that show is as fake as a Hillary Clinton accent in a black church.
just go with: everything on TV is fake- everything. Especially “news” and “reality” shows
and you will not be wrong
(If it's not true, it can't be posted on the internet, you know)
exactly.
:p
I can believe the moonshine show because that culture has run as an open secret for over 100 years. Where moonshine is popular everybody knows who makes it, everybody knows the various qualities of the recipes (whose is strong, whose is smooth, who uses what base), they generally even know roughly whose still is where, and yet nobody ever seems to get caught. That’s what happens when everybody that lives in an area thinks a law is stupid, it doesn’t get enforced.
The really funny thing about this article is that its author is actually mixing it up with posters in the comments section.
“I saw part of this show once and am sorry I wasted 10 minutes of my life on it.”
I did the same; really stupid stuff.
“Soon the History Channel will be among them.”
I’m done with the History Channel; it stopped being about history years ago, and now devotes Christmastime and Easter to running shows questioning the authenticity of Jesus. Waiting for similar shows on Abraham, Mohammed, or Buddha...
I watch that occasionally. Probably the best part is whatever little story Jim Tom tells at the end.
I wonder if maybe “Moonshiner X” is actually Tickle’s long-lost older brother Rex? ;)
Yeah, I used to find the shows better, but now I barely even look at the schedule.
It was like watching a train wreak.
Well, obviously. You know what I mean.
I watched that show last night. Thanksgiving will never be the same.
These people should not be allowed to own animals.
I know what you mean on the Christian attacks.
On the other religions I believe you’re going to have a VERY LONG WAIT.
“On the other religions I believe youre going to have a VERY LONG WAIT.”
I’m not holding my breath.
It is amazing to me how different young people are taught about historical events in comparison to how we were taught. Not only are they generally bad students, but they are so gullible; there is no critical thinking at all.
