Kevin Madden, a GOP strategist who worked on Mitt Romneys presidential campaign last year, said the retreat gives lawmakers a chance to start laying the groundwork necessary to re-establish the GOP brand.
Right now, we are caught in a vicious cycle of just reacting to events that happen in two-week increments. Instead, we have to look at our challenge of rebuilding in a much more comprehensive fashion, Mr. Madden said. What is the positive impression that we want voters to have two years from now, and then four years from now, when we have another presidential election?
SNIP
Ford OConnell, a Republican strategist, said the updated party message also must appeal to nontraditional supporters.
If we look at polling, the Republican brand is in the toilet. Part of that is the ideas are not connecting with what we would call the mainstream of the moderate voters,

The GOP-e is usually very much out of touch except when it comes to the pocketbooks of the rich ~ they know how to reach up and tap them
First of all, why would anyone listen to a guy whose resume includes devising Romney's campaign strategy? If you believe Romney even had a strategy.
If they think being more liberal is going to get more votes, they are all retards
The LP is extremely wrong on social issues.
Without even glancing at the article, I'm going to guess "Hard Left".
What do I win?
Starting with the fact that American politics really doesn't have a middle, I'm not sure he has any idea what he's talking about. Can we get rid of this guy first? Just not quote him, and fur shur don't recommend him as an advisor to even our enemies!
>> Kevin Madden, a GOP strategist who worked on Mitt Romneys presidential campaign last year
Here’s what I find puzzling:
WHY would we give a damn what a strategist on that failed campaign would ever again have to say?
If you can’t come up with a winning strategy against a POS like Obama, then it seems to me like you need NEW strategists.
“The natural progress of things is for liberty to yeild, and government to gain ground.” - Thomas Jefferson to Edward Carrington, Paris, May 27, 1788
We ran a RINO in 2008 and LOST. The Tea Party took over in 2010 and we WON the house. Then we pushed out the tea party like red headed step children in 2012, ran another RINO and LOST. So what is the lesson to be learned from the last 3 election cycles???
We didn't distance ourselves from the Tea Party enough or run a big enough RINO in 2012!
Ah, MORE moderate, huh...?
I stopped being Republican because of that, but now I reallllly know my decision was the right one.
I hope those idiots totally disappear.
Amen. The last guy we should look to for advice.
EPIC FAIL!!
"We'll get you to socialism, but slower!"
I can’t figure out what their strategy was either. Other than a great 1st debate, it seems they just assumed people disliked Obama and if Romney just seemed somewhat presidential, they’d make a change. It was a horribly flawed approach. Assuming your opponent would not improve his standing with voters despite a billion dollars and the media as surrogates is just plain stupid. The more I think about it the more frustrating it is.
Kevin Madden should get lost and go play with his etch a sketch.
.
Washington Times runs a Dem/RINO plea for mercy.
Do they think no one knows conservatives increased their share of both the House and the Senate Republican caucuses?
And the RINOs lost in both?
No more RINOS!!
RINO douchebag.
FUGOP
Bingo.
Why can’t these brilliant a-holes see that what you just stated is the true fact.
We can win if we stick to Conservative idea’s.
Trying to run Liberals as Conservatives does not work. What the party needs to do is get rid of RINO’s.
Ya mean you want a party with a foreign policy that creates a war for every generation?
I want an America first conservative party that avoids a war for every generation. I hope it is GOP but I'm not counting on it.
(from the article~:” Kevin Madden, a GOP strategist who worked on Mitt Romneys presidential campaign last year
cripplecreek~:”Whith a record of success like that, we should listen. LOL “
Hey Kevin , you didn’t even turn out your own party’s base.
Even Obummer recieved fewer votes , and you still couldn’t beat him !
Hey Kevin ,.. just go run away !
The last GOP rebirth began in 1993 at a conservative summit held at the Washington, DC Mayflower Hotel, sponsored by the Heritage Foundation and National Review, the day after the Clinton was inaugurated.
I was there, along with 800 pissed off conservatives. the next 2,500 people to try to reserve a spot were turned away for lack of capacity. All the names were there. It was who’s who of the Sunday talking heads. There was no internet, only online services, and the one I posted on was Townhall. CPAC was two weeks later, and even bigger. Two years later, was the election of 1994.
Maybe we need another conservative summit to begin plotting strategy for the long haul.
Madden and Romney gave America Obama the Tyrant,
and RomneyCARE and gay marriage by Romney’s pen.
If they are the GOP, then the GOP is the enemy
of all things conservative.
Trying to be Liberal Light as a brand is a guaranteed loser.
Discourage the conservative base, always get outbid for the liberal votes.
Morons.
You can try and polish a turd but it is still a turd. The Gelding Old Party is spineless, ‘Rat enabling, and unprincipled. The stupid party doesn’t need new lipstick, it needs principled, confrontational, and unapologetic leaders. Sadly, the GOP leaders are ‘Rat butlers.
If they are the GOP, then the GOP is the enemy of all things conservative"
You missed a few things....
Romney singed into law the nation's first PERMANENT state ban on 'assault rifles'.
Romney singed into law the nation's first state gay marriage legalization law.
Etc
etc
etc
The hell with the Republicans. I’m a conservative.

The GOP-e's idea of "in touch"
1. No foreign military interventions without a formal congressional declaration of war.
2. Oppose inflation.
3. Bring home the exported jobs, put Americans to work again, making money, buying things, paying taxes and voting GOP again.
My tagline hasn’t moved since April of 2012. I’m ready for a new party.
LP ants open borders doesn’t it?
National Suicide
Exactly.
If you cannot beat a combo Moslem/Communist who’s openly destroying the USA every damn day in full public view, then you should retire from politics and open a pottery school.
Queue up the mariachi music.
...and one of the original Palin backstabbers in 2008.
I don't know but I do not like open borders.
I voted for Romney because the alternative was worse, but I’d hoped a lesson had been learned by the Repubs: they can never “out-liberal” a Dem, and they can’t win trying to do so.
The republican rinos want to become more libertarian, and embrace the left’s agenda, while continuing a more conservative stance on economic issues.
Romney, Christie, it doesn’t work, but the establishment is as anti-conservative as everyone else.
I wouldn't say that at all, because the RINO establishment wants to continue to increase the size of government. Libertarians want it drastically shrunk (they are correct in that regard, if only because we can't afford to pay for the government we have at present).
“First of all, why would anyone listen to a guy whose resume includes devising Romney’s campaign strategy?”
ROFLOL
But these are the clowns they are listening to.
They also know how to play “the lesser of two evils.”. I’m sick of their games. I want a real candidate.
I think they are wrong on social issues at the state level and will fight them there. The feds have no business in 99% of what we argue about.
Rinos are embracing libertarianism/liberalism on more and more issues, abortion, homosexuals in the military, open borders, “gay marriage”and so on, libertarians and conservatives don’t argue about economic issues.
Leftists/libertarians have been winning the culture war for 50 years, they will fight it at any level that they can.
I don’t think 9-11 was created by repubs and we needed to respond in Afghanistan. The Federal government has very few constitutional jobs: national defense (which includes securing the border and foreign policy) and ensuring states don’t encumber interstate commerce are the two most important. They spend most of our money on redistribution of wealth and policing stupid crap that the STATES are constitutionally responsible for (war on drugs, polution, etc.)
I completely agree. If mexico were a free country with open markets, i’d be fine with opening the border. They aren’t. Opening the border is suicide.
Oh, cool! Now we’re going to have TWO democrat parties to vote for.
“Kevin Madden, a GOP strategist who worked on Mitt Romneys presidential campaign last year,”
This man needs to be pole-axed.
Libertarians want to disband the Border Patrol, and INS, and truly, literally, open the borders.
