Viewed as out of touch, GOP gathers forces to plot rebirth (And guess which way they want to go)
Washington Times ^ | January 16, 2013 | Seth McLaughlin

Kevin Madden, a GOP strategist who worked on Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign last year, said the retreat gives lawmakers a chance to start laying the groundwork necessary to re-establish the GOP brand.

“Right now, we are caught in a vicious cycle of just reacting to events that happen in two-week increments. Instead, we have to look at our challenge of rebuilding in a much more comprehensive fashion,” Mr. Madden said. “What is the positive impression that we want voters to have two years from now, and then four years from now, when we have another presidential election?”

Ford O’Connell, a Republican strategist, said the updated party message also must appeal to nontraditional supporters.

“If we look at polling, the Republican brand is in the toilet. Part of that is the ideas are not connecting with what we would call the mainstream of the moderate voters,”

"Why I am no longer a Republican. I'm so sick of these idiots. The LP is extremely wrong on foreign policy."

Ya mean you want a party with a foreign policy that creates a war for every generation?

I want an America first conservative party that avoids a war for every generation. I hope it is GOP but I'm not counting on it.

The last GOP rebirth began in 1993 at a conservative summit held at the Washington, DC Mayflower Hotel, sponsored by the Heritage Foundation and National Review, the day after the Clinton was inaugurated.

I was there, along with 800 pissed off conservatives. the next 2,500 people to try to reserve a spot were turned away for lack of capacity. All the names were there. It was who’s who of the Sunday talking heads. There was no internet, only online services, and the one I posted on was Townhall. CPAC was two weeks later, and even bigger. Two years later, was the election of 1994.

Maybe we need another conservative summit to begin plotting strategy for the long haul.

Madden and Romney gave America Obama the Tyrant,
and RomneyCARE and gay marriage by Romney’s pen.

If they are the GOP, then the GOP is the enemy
of all things conservative.

Trying to be Liberal Light as a brand is a guaranteed loser.
Discourage the conservative base, always get outbid for the liberal votes.
Morons.

You can try and polish a turd but it is still a turd. The Gelding Old Party is spineless, ‘Rat enabling, and unprincipled. The stupid party doesn’t need new lipstick, it needs principled, confrontational, and unapologetic leaders. Sadly, the GOP leaders are ‘Rat butlers.

You missed a few things....

Romney singed into law the nation's first PERMANENT state ban on 'assault rifles'.

Romney singed into law the nation's first state gay marriage legalization law.

Etc

etc

etc

"Maybe we need another conservative summit to begin plotting strategy for the long haul."

1. No foreign military interventions without a formal congressional declaration of war.

2. Oppose inflation.

3. Bring home the exported jobs, put Americans to work again, making money, buying things, paying taxes and voting GOP again.

Exactly.

If you cannot beat a combo Moslem/Communist who’s openly destroying the USA every damn day in full public view, then you should retire from politics and open a pottery school.

I voted for Romney because the alternative was worse, but I’d hoped a lesson had been learned by the Repubs: they can never “out-liberal” a Dem, and they can’t win trying to do so.

The republican rinos want to become more libertarian, and embrace the left’s agenda, while continuing a more conservative stance on economic issues.

Romney, Christie, it doesn’t work, but the establishment is as anti-conservative as everyone else.

"The republican rinos want to become more libertarian"

I wouldn't say that at all, because the RINO establishment wants to continue to increase the size of government. Libertarians want it drastically shrunk (they are correct in that regard, if only because we can't afford to pay for the government we have at present).
