That's the way it is in boomtowns. In 1850, a year after the gold rush began, San Francisco had 33,000 men--and 2000 women. Bet they weren't all school marms and washerwomen either.

Not too much different than Alaska. Lots of men, with huge wads of cash to burn, and relatively few women.
Even women who aren't "in the trade" make big bucks.
And this phenomenon isn't limited to North Dakota. I have relatives who live along the highline in Montana and they say the same things. Now that ND is where the moolah is, they have all kinds of rough guys passing through (or worse, staying) in town that scare the locals.
