The libs refer to the civilian version of the M-16 as powerful weapon which has no place out in the general populations possession. Actually, the .223/5.56mm is illegal to hunt deer with in some states as it lacks the knock down power to make a clean kill.

True, but you didn’t go far enough. The M4A1 has a full-auto selection and typically used by special forces. If I recall correctly, the military decided to go with 3-rounds bursts as a way to cut back on use of ammo. Too much “spray and pray” going on. Almost all grunts have the M4, although I think I recall Al Gray, former USMC Commandant, establishing a squad system where one or two men would be issued the A1, another would have a SAW, and the rest would carry the standard M4...my point being that the A1 was not and probably still not totally restricted to special forces.
