“Don’t you get it? Boomers can no more get rid of the entitlements than Republicans can.”

And as Churchill once said- sometimes you fight when you can win. Other times you fight - because you didn’t fight before, and now you must. We must fight this, because if we don’t things will be even worse.

You can either fight with us, as we try to fix stuff, or you can choose to sit on the sidelines. I cannot make you want to help but I can ask. And I am asking - please, help us fix this.

“I suggest you martial young people to the cause, but don’t expect anything good to come from it until you get young people to stop voting for dems.”

I won’t get anywhere if I can’t get boomers on my side. We need you and we can’t get it done without your support. This is why I am making my pitch to you - not someone else.

“You are blaming the wrong people, my FRiend.”

Believe me - I sincerely wish that were true.

Your generation is just too strong for Obama, America will never survive you.

Your whininess and proclaiming yourself as a deprived victim, too poor to marry and reproduce, and blaming your problems on others shows how that will come to be.

You guys, the generation beyond competitive politics, you will never be anything other than a democrat voting block.

You could ask the vet who kindly invited me for Thanksgiving dinner if I harped on him. :)

You have probably dined with many vets, boomers produced almost 9.5 million of them.

I would love to help you, however your attitude is not attractive, and doesn’t endear you to anyone.

As I said, we’ve lived our lives as though there would be no entitlements, so it’s no skin off of my nose.

Even my granddaddy, who would have received many times more than he paid into SS, took what he paid in, plus a little interest, and gave the rest to charity.

Even though he didn’t want any more, he was unable to stop the payments.

Face it...it’s been forced down our throats.

Blaming boomers...putting the blame anywhere other than where it belongs...won’t help your cause whatsoever. It turns those who would love to help “off.”

Look, here’s a fact.

100 percent of those under 35 voting won’t make a dent in the overall ballots cast.

Under 35s are less likely to vote, less likely to show up.

Where is the meat and potatoes of the electorate? Boomers and up. Boomers have been the most substantial portion of the electorate every year since they hit 35. Since then, we’ve seen Clinton twice, Bush twice, and Obama.

So, if you want to win elections, where do you go - you go for where the ballots are - boomers. Why did Obama get elected? because he split boomers 50/50. I know I can post this until I’m blue in the fact - but that’s the truth. Obama doesn’t care about the young people. He cares about getting 50 percent of Boomers. He gets that, he’s invincible.

“Blaming boomers...putting the blame anywhere other than where it belongs...won’t help your cause whatsoever. It turns those who would love to help “off.” “

Insofar as people are more comfortable with the status quo than they are with change, they will vote status quo every time. Everything I have posted is the truth, and until people wake up to this - things aren’t going to change.

What, you want the truth? That by 2020, America will be bankrupt, and it won’t matter whether you get your SS check, because the money won’t be worth anything?

That’s what we are staring at in the face right now. Even if you taxed folks my age 100 percent to pay for the existing benefits, we will still fall short. Default is coming, unless benefits are cut as soon as possible. We have about 8 years leeway given the enormous advantages handed down to you by your forefathers, the ones who went to the Moon - the ones who actually defeated a foreign power, etc. The list goes on.

Where is the meat and potatoes of the electorate? Boomers and up. Your generation is the most lefty generation in history, and the end of America, this thread shows why.

You aren't interested in Obama or Social Security, at all, you are trolling about something to do with the last conservative generation.

Then perhaps you get your generation to vote a little less lefty, instead of being a rock solid, lefty block.

It seems like someone who was conservative would be ecstatic about the over age 50 voters, instead, as a troll, you hate them and are at war with them.

You really are not the brightest troll we have seen.

If you’re the last conservative generation, God help us. We’re doomed. Conservativism brought to you by the generation that brought us gay marriage, and abortion. Haven’t you done enough damage already?

Go where the votes are. Boomers are by far the largest voting block in America. Whatever Boomers want, they get.

“It seems like someone who was conservative would be ecstatic about the over age 50 voters”

What’s to be ecstatic about them? You went 50/50 on Obama in 2008. That’s pathetic.

Looking at 2012 - you went 51-47 for Romney. That’s horrible. Absolutely horrible. 40 percent of the electorate and you went 51-47.

If boomers simply voted like their parents did - Obama would have been defeated and Romney would have won. Fact.

How did boomers create abortion?

Or gay marriage for that matter, as the most lefty generation in history, you are really something to behold.

It is clear that conservatism is not an interest of yours, you are singlemindly focused not on the left, but on a generation.

Your generation gives us Obama, and then reelects him, and we all know will forever be a democrat voting block, and you are attacking the republican voters.

No, he’s not a boomer. He has very few good things to say about his leadership - but he did like Stormin’ Norman. Probably because he came up before all this handholding pc crap came up.

“How did boomers create abortion?”

Well, let’s see. Oldest boomers were born in ‘45. Roe was in 1972 - so the Oldest boomers would have been 27 or so. Roe wasn’t aborting anybody but Boomers and Boomers children for a good 20 years. Then Boomers are puzzled why there aren’t enough kids to keep the entitlements rolling.

“Or gay marriage for that matter”

Well, let’s take a look at Vicky Gene Robinson. The first gay episcopal bishop. Gosh. When was he born? 1947. That would make him, golly gee whiz - a boomer!

I bet you’ve heard of Gene Robinson!

“How do you think that Obama won the 2012 election?”

By getting enough Boomer voters to support him and rendering Boomers as a whole irrelevant. Had Boomers swung even 45-55 for Romney, Romney would have won, easily.

Worked for him in 2008, worked for him again in 2012. You’re 40 percent of the electorate. You’re telling me that 45-55 for Romney was impossible? Heck, that’s what your parents put up.

Actually, there are TWO, 1. wheat and the 2. tares,
that make up the “boomers”, and all generations.

1. Those with the beatitudes of Matthew Chapter 5, and

2. Those who serve Mammon, the heart darkened (Matt. Chapter 6 and Matthew 6:24. )

All public employees, President on down, should never be permitted to vote. (Matthew Chapter 7)

You're reading comprehension skills are a tad impaired this evening... is the ganja that good?

You accurately quoted dragnet2: “millions of stay at home moms, who never had to work a day in her life outside the home” and then went on to misrepresent the poster's meaning.

The poster said, "...never had to work...", and you misrepresent it as if he said "...never worked..." But even that doesn't matter because the end phrase, "...outside the home...", makes the "had to" clause moot.

...Or is the ganja that bad?

Hey, I am Mom, and if that happens, I won’t like it! My husband and I have no illusions about Social Security. Paid into it for years and won’t get much of it, if any, back. We are resigned to being the suckers holding the empty bag, and we do not want our kids and grandkids saddled with the taxes it would take to keep the Ponzi scheme going a few more years. Government programs always pit groups of people against one another in a fight for the spoils. Too bad so many people still believe in a free lunch and government “benefits”.

Boy, sure is entertain watching the inter-generational fighting on this thread.

America used to be a self-reliant, resilient country.

Maybe we still are, but it’s not apparent sampling some of the discussion on this thread.

It doesn’t matter though. At some point in the not-too-distant future (depending on how irresponsible government can get away with being) your “golden years” will depend on:

1. The assets you’ve accumulated yourself.
2. How many children you have and whether they can stand you
3. The community spirit of your local area and it’s religious and civic institutons

you’ll note that government doesn’t directly factor in

Government will matter, of course, but what will matter most is it’s size and how aggressively they tax you - that will be a short-lived issue though - all governments at all levels will become a lot smaller, because there is no money to support anything but small government.

That’s it. Adjust your life by controlling those three things - pick wisely and you’ll have a more enjoyable old age, pick poorly and die early, penniless and alone.

It’s entirely up to you. As much as folks want government to ensure their comfort and independence, government will fail, as it must in an honorable America.

Whine if you must, but whining won’t help when nobody has the money and your well-being depends on things money can’t buy.

It really ticks me off to see so many of the statistics in this article come from the AARP. AARP has been a huge part of the problem - always grabbing for more government goodies without ever thinking of who has to pay for it all. The ones currently collecting benefits paid by taxpayers will be the last to enjoy the gravy train, and the AARP and others like them don’t give a rat’s behind what is going to happen to future generations. Gimme, gimme, gimme!

As for people not saving enough for the future, it’s hard to do when government takes so much of what we have to give to others and debases the currency, too. Might as well spend it now while it is still worth something.

Finally, a post that I can identify with! I retired at age 54, non government employer, I have a private pension but had to wait until I was 62 to get my s.s. It amounts to about 2.5 times the number cited in the article, in addition to my private pension. My wife's income dwarfs mine and I cry all the way to the bank.

All you youngins keep those s.s. checks coming to me and never, never, never, vote for that nasty old, "means testing".

Pretty sick of the boomer bashing too.
The greatest fought the war, but didn’t run it.
They WERE in charge in the 60s for Vietnam and 70s for Malaise.
As soon as they came home they worked to break the piggy bank, who do you think expanded SS, voted in Medicare and the Great Society?
By the time the boomers even started voting, that cake was baked.
In the 80s and 90s when we had a chance to right the ship, who keep stopping reform of SS AND MEDICARE? The now Senior Citizens who feel for the Rats Mediscare crap every time.

Such luxury was alien to me but then they are all married to successful men. I was a divorced working mom. Maybe they don't want to be me but Gen X-ers are lazy is my take."

Gen X aren't "young moms". We were born anywhere from the mid sixties into the seventies, and we're solidly middle-aged at this point. I'm self-employed, but most relatives/friends my age are working 60-plus hours per week trying to keep up on bubble-era mortgages taken out in the 5-10 year runup before the housing crash. We tend to active lifestyles, in the extreme, preferring leisure activities like mountain biking, triathaloning, and "adventure tourism". "Lazy" isn't the word I'd use to describe us/them.

The generation I think you're referring to are the millennials. Most of them never had jobs in high school, and I think that contributes to them showing up at their first professional jobs with very little in the way of work habits or skills, and seem to have trouble working independently. They also seem to feel they're entitled to mid-career pay/responsibility the minute they set foot on a job. Most of them are good kids, and I think they're surprisingly conservative socially/politically. Not sure I'd call them "lazy" either, as some of them keep up insane work/social schedules - but sheltered, pampered, and naive come to mind.

It's a ponzi scheme. They've ALWAYS used current money paid in to pay current retirees. There's never been a “lockbox”, that's a lie. They didn't spend the money. Bottom line, there's only 3 things they can do:
1)Raise SS taxes.
2)Raise retirement age.
3)Lower benefits paid out.

But even this can only be done for so long. Sooner or later what you pay in over the years is far less than what you get back in retirement. Indeed, we're already there. I hate SS.

Perhaps if you hadn’t aborted a third of my generation things would be different today.

Who is “you”? The victim mentality and it’s best friend, resentment is poison and it is based in falsehoods.

Your arguments are with liberalism...not a whole generation of people who had it’s destructive ambitions imposed upon them.

Many Boomers saw the retirement bubble a long time ago and tried to reform SS to prepare for it. Liberals (in the media and DNC) would have nothing of that and they accused republicans of being racists who were trying to feed old people dog food. Suggesting any reform to SS was compared to touching the third rail of politics.

Unless you were born yesterday, you know many boomers have fought against abortion and have not participated in abortion. They have worked hard to talk moms into not killing their babies. You also know that liberals celebrate abortion and push it as hard as they can.

YOu have liberals in your generation to fight, too. They will do further harm to your generation like they have harmed the boomer generation. The ideology is anti-human life, anti-happiness/freedom, and anti-prosperty.

Sometimes it is best to fight off what you have now than to whine about and resent what conservatives failed to win in the past.

I see the “progress” agenda items they desire to impose upon your generation. Do you? What are you doing to stop them? Should we blame you for what they do if you fail to stop them?

I see you absolutely didn’t get my point.

You are blaming anyone and everyone who is/are living today.

What you don’t get is that this was set in motion many, many years ago...even way before I was born.

The progressive movement was started over 100 years ago.

Now, go back through history and find those who are truly to blame.

And, then...grow up.

My problem is with the bad things that boomers have done in the past 40 years, from aborting their children in their 20s to supporting gay marriage now.

Who was the one aborting children from 1972-onwards? Hint, it wasn’t the silent generation. Did your parents force you to have an abortion? Nobody forced you to have/get one. Why did boomers abort so many of their children? That’s what I want the answer for.

I see. So what you are saying, is that the boomers, in their early 20’s when Roe was passed, weren’t the ones getting abortions done? That’s nonsense. You and I both know that abortion was legalized when the boomers came of age, and many Boomers partook of abortion wholeheartedly. That is a Fact.

What I want to know is why? Why did Boomers abort 30 million of their children - more than the population of Texas all by themselves?

“Your arguments are with liberalism...not a whole generation of people who had it’s destructive ambitions imposed upon them.”

Nonsense. I believe that Boomers had a choice. They could have said no. They could have said, “I am going to keep my child”. They could have chosen not to enter the abortion clinics. But they did. To the tune of 30 million children. 30 million children that we will never get back - my peers. My brothers and sisters, and cousins, and wife and friends. One third are simply not here. And the best excuse you can offer is that ‘it was forced on you!’

“Many Boomers saw the retirement bubble a long time ago”

Which is why they aborted their children? Robbing your seed corn.

“Suggesting any reform to SS was compared to touching the third rail of politics.”

Because of Boomers, not in spite of them.

“you know many boomers have fought against abortion and have not participated in abortion.”

I have worked with professional prolife organizations. I have picketed and stood out in the cold. One of my best friends is a boomer and I am very close to him. But I’m going to quote him.

“I see two kinds of people. My parents and my children. There is a hole - and that hole is my generation - the boomers. Where are the boomers? Why are they not standing out on the picket lines? Why is it always the older generation - the grandparents, standing with their grandchildren?”

“They will do further harm to your generation”

No, actually, no, they won’t. Not unless they kill a third of my generation.

“I see the “progress” agenda items they desire to impose upon your generation. Do you?”

They? I don’t see them as the ones pushing it. What I do see is boomers funding it and standing out and pushing against us. They are taking what they were taught by their parents (boomers), and attacking us. Those who are on our side, either were taught by our peers or by their grandparents. Some by their parents, but not many.

“What are you doing to stop them? Should we blame you for what they do if you fail to stop them?”

Absolutely, you should. If we fail. We must try to ban it. Now it’s our turn to see what we can do and keep fighting.

and that’s why we will lose. Boomers just don’t get it. SS is the problem.

Pathetic. And I thought I was on a conservative site. Some get it, most do not. And until they understand that SS is an entitlement, this will persist.

I suspect I nailed the negative attitude towards stay at home moms perfectly, which is why him and others are squaking. Flak = over the target. Yes, stay at homes moms are lazy. So lazy that taking care of children isn’t ‘work’, or at least ‘worthwhile work’ at all!

Many boomers do get it, you still do not.
Blaming boomers is like blaming my right arm if I punch you in the nose. Wino is a good guy but I hate his right arm.

The satanic federal farce in the D of C is your enemy.

No, you didn't. You read something into dragnet2's post that wasn't there, not even remotely.
Hence, my admonishment to bone up on your reading comprehension skills. You can do that by reading more slowly and thinking before you post a knee-jerk reply.

You missed the whole message of my post. I will put it in baby terms for you.

You blame a group of people - a generation (boomers) - for “killing babies” and failing to reform in preparation for the social security retirement baloon.

I don’t believe in group sin, group guilt nor group meaning/sterotypes. Some boomers were liberals and committed abortion and some fought against abortion. Some boomers rejected the reform of socialist insecurity and some boomers worked hard to reform it.

I don’t believe in racial group sin nor racial group guilt and meaning. I don’t beleive in male group sin and guilt nor in female group sin and guilt. I believe in redemption for individuals who were lost and then were found.

I don’t hold hatred and resentment against whole groups of people because I am not a liberal - stupid. I see the individual in front of me. In you I see a person who has bought into liberalism’s mentality of tribalism and you are jockeying for the position of moral high ground victim. Your generation will suffer greatly if you buy into generational warfare. Look how well it has served black liberals in the ghetto because that is where you are headed if you don’t turn your mind and attitude around.

If you want to do group inventory - look at your own generation. Is there liberalism there? Is there abortion going on? Are you really so innocent in a group idenity to be pointing their stinky fingers at another generation? Group think is a false mentality.

I don’t blame Boomers for the problems in my life. I blame Boomers for killing 30 million children. Something they did do. You’ve already blamed your parents for ‘instilling a culture of liberalism’ and passed the ultimate responsibility onto them. Which I suppose says it all, does it not? Redemption requires repentence. Until I see Boomers willing to acknowledge their part, things will never change, at least not until the boomers are gone. I know we are winning this issue with young people, but right now, we aren’t getting much support. We’ve got 50+1 with the kids and the granparents. What we don’t have is 50+1 of you.
