‘Second Amendment Was Passed to Protect Slavery’ (Major hurl alert)

. . . .

On Hartmann’s The Big Picture with Thom Hartmann, he said, “But I want to tell you something you don’t know about the Second Amendment ,something that’s been lost in the pages of history – that is very crucial to informing today’s current gun debate. And that’s this: The real reason the Second Amendment was ratified, and why it says ‘State’ instead of ‘Country,’ was to preserve the Slave Patrol Militias in the Southern States, which was necessary to get Virginia’s vote. Founders Patrick Henry, George Mason, and James Madison were totally clear on that…and we all should be too…Today’s Second Amendment is linked to our nation’s disturbing history of slavery.

. . .

Where do I find support for this? I am aware that a higher percent of blacks owned slaves and a large percentage of American Indians own them as well.

“Wait until he finds out that the first slave owner in the US was Anthony Johnson, a black man and he owned a guy named John Casor, also black man.”

during the lead-up to the Revolutionary War, Lord Dunsmore offered freedom to slaves who could escape and join his forces.

WTF?

First of all, the name was "Dunmore", not "Dunsmore".

He was a "Lord", i.e. loyalist, governor of Virginia.

His "offer" of freedom was simply a way to avoid paying the troops, not some noble, principled gesture.

If the slaves threw in with the crown, AND IF THE CROWN WON, then they would have gotten freedom (at least that was the plan).

As it turned out, people got their freedom by fighting AGAINST Dunmore, not FOR him.

If that be the case (it’s nonsense)… then any honest DemWitocrap (are there any?), would seek to repeal the 2nd Amendment via the Constitutional process, as was done for Prohibition (38 states approving). Not trying an end run our founding document! Truth is (for those who care) the first gun control laws were after the Civil War to prevent newly freed slaves from arming themselves… if they had guns I’m certain there would’ve been far fewer lynchings as the KKK would’ve had to deal with the possibility of return fire! As was on the ‘net recently, an armed law abiding citizen in a “No-Assault weapon”! NEVER underestimate the ability to shoot back!!! God bless America!

I wonder if they ever heard of the Federalist Papers.

Obviously not. They're just making stuff up as they go along.

Yes, the actual truth of the matter is that gun control originated in the U.S. in the Southern states right after Reconstruction to keep the Klan safe. They didn’t much want the blacks to be able to shoot back when being lynched.

This article was obviously written by a delusional fool with no knowledge of history.

In his speech proposing the Bill of Rights to congress, James Madison said, "The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed; a well armed, and well regulated militia being the best security of a free country: but no person religiously scrupulous of bearing arms, shall be compelled to render military service in person."

The mere structure of that sentence indicates that keeping and bearing arms is a separate thought from the well-regulated militia concept. Even if Carl T. Bogus' (seriously?) thesis that the militia wording was a compromise with the slave-owning South, the essential right to bear arms is unrelated.

Sadly, the language of the actual amendment is less clear than Madison's first formulation, but "the right of the people to keep and bear Arms" can still be read as a separate thought, not dependent on the militia language.

There is no limit to the blind ignorance of the leftists.

“State” versus “Country”? Sheesh! The founders never thought of the “Country” as anything more than an affiliation of free and independent STATES for limited purposes that are enumerated in the Constitution.
The fact that the Sheeple have allowed the Federal leviathan to ooze beyond the constraints of those enumerated powers is one reason we are going this insanity right now.

Additionally, in 1789 the country was looking to the demise of slavery. Tobacco land was dying and Whitney’s gin and Slater’s powered loom were in the future. The Constitution sunsetted the int’l slave trade in 1808. The Founders, as great as they were, could not know Slater and Whitney would give slavery new and greater life. However anyone can review these facts and know that the 2nd amendment had nothing to do with slave patrols. Anyone save this moron writer

Folks, there is a very well thought our narrative be presented here and it seems to be going something like this: Obama is the “Lincoln” of our age. We've seen the Lincoln movies, Obama is being sworn in with his hand on Abe's bible. He's being sold as one who will unite an often bitterly divided country. He is being compared to Lincoln in many ways even if the comparison is dubious. Simultaneously, we've seen gun owners, conservatives and constitutionalists demonized as racists. Jason Fatlock of ESPN called the NRA the new KKK. Chrissy Mathews compares gun owners to the Old South segregationists. There is even a recent article from the left wing propagandists floating about that puts forth the lie that the Second Amendment was established to protect southern militias as they enforced slavery. They are very carefully creating the moral authority for their repression of those who will resist their planned transformation of this country.

It's mind blowing what crap some people will believe.

The majority of the nation has fallen into insanity and I fear there is no going back.

We now have generations "educated" in government schools who have been brainwashed with political correctness to the extent they cannot sepearate fact from fantasy and cannot make a rational judgement call.

I hope not, but it is not impossible.

Lincoln made decisions that led to the deaths of 600,000 with another 500,000 wounded.

Lincoln was not the great benefactor of blacks because he wanted to release them from slavery. He did not "free the slaves" - he freed only some slaves in order to help him defeat the south. He declared slaves to be free only in the secessionist states. He left those in the other "slave states" as slaves.

IMHO Lincoln is one of the worst presidents we ever had.

The 600,000 killed in Lincoln's war was about 2% of the population at that time. Today that would be about 6,000,000 dead. Imagine a war today of American against American where 6 million were killed.

I have no doubt Obama would be happy to preside over that kind of war if it meant the end of resistance to his unconstitutional government.

Would Americans stand for it?
Well, a majority of voters just re-elected him, knowing what he represents. And the infective against constitutionalists and other conservatives has degenerated into such venomous, foaming-at-the-mouth hate that anything is possible.

Obama is the “Lincoln” of our age.

Impossible. Lincoln freed the slaves. Oboma is creating them. The two are complete opposites.
Lincoln was for freedom. Oboma is for totalitarianism.
Lincoln started the Republican party. Oboma started the Communist Oboma party.
The two have absolutely nothing in common at all - unless Oboma really is trying to start a civil war like many people believe.

Why is Lincoln being cast as a dictator so much lately?

If it’s about habeus corpus, he was CoC during a civil war.

If it’s about Reconstruction, he was already dead.
