Quentin Tarentino thinks he’s a Cornball Brotha and can say “N*GGER” any time just like the real brotha’s.
Although I am not truly in favor of censorship, and although I do not think that movies and videogames are the cause of mass shootings, I would still like it if a Republican were to sponsor a bill that made it illegal for TV or Hollywood or videogames to show anyone shotting a gun.
The media would be outraged. "What about the First Amendment?" they'd say. "You can't restrict our right to speech -- the Constitution says so!!"
Yeah. You like the First? And why is the Second so easy to overlook?
Mark nails it, again.
Just yesterday I was telling my daughter that when I was a kid (50s-60s) we had plenty of violent movies/TV, BUT, it was good guys v. bad guys and the good guys always won. There was a moral to the stories.
Today it’s senseless blood and gore for impact sake.
Even to comedy. My last Tarantino movie was Pulp Fiction. Comedic violence.
Land grabbing by the fed for oil shale government control. That’s my story.
I’m glad he mentioned that Tarantino is imitative of other filmmakers. I wish more people would watch some old spaghetti westerns and avoid Tarantino’s rip-offs. He’s like a rapper who “samples” some real music to make his own record.
#5 references the grouse bit at the beginning!
Good point vis-a-vis restricting Hollywood’s output and the uproar it would cause..
I do believe TV , Movies, video games in particular contribute to the kooky shootings w/o purpose.
Not the only reason but a contribution.
If you’re going to call somebody else an idiot you should take the time to get your facts right. Django Unchained has nothing to do with the Civil War. It’s all antebellum and self contained to the point where we don’t really even know how close the Civil War is.
And given today's technology, the violence and gore can be made much more realistic thus desensitizing people to such horrors. It starts blurring the line between fantasy and reality.
Maybe you should watch the movie. It spans 1858-1859 and revolves around the plot of freedman Django liberating his wife, who is owned by a cruel plantation owner. So, in a sense, you’re right: it’s not about the civil war, which hasn’t started yet, but it’s not antebellum, it’s prebellum. That said, it’s not a particularly good movie.
I have seen the movie. And the correct word is antebellum:
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/antebellum
“before or existing before a war, especially the American Civil War”
And if you’ve seen the movie then you know this statement from Steyn And if you look at what hes done with the Civil War, this latest film, hes not in the least bit interested in the Civil War, because that would require reading a book. It would require doing something other than watching other movies. So hes used the Civil War as a pretext for his kind of homage to spaghetti westerns.” is just plain silly. The movie doesn’t USE the Civil War for anything. I thought it was an excellent movie. But as with all of Tarentino’s movie it’s really about how much you like the genre he’s homaging, I love Spaghetti Westerns and it’s a very solid example of the genre, with all those little touches. Part of the fun of a Tarentino movie is knowing what movie he is referencing with this frame, because there’s a reference to some other movie in every one. Especially like the scene of the 2 Djangos side by side.
