French begging for troops to fight Islamists in Mali

Schadenfreude's a bitch, isn't it?

When Jacque Chirac was president, the French did everything they could to torpdeo our efforts in Iraq. They refused to send troops to fight Saddam and continuously opposed us in NATO councils.

Now, suddenly - France needs help in Mali. And no one is lifting a finger to help them.

"The French aren't alone, they are the trailblazers," he said, after European ministers approved a contingent of more than 200 military trainers for Mali. He added: "It is completely possible - but this is up to them - that others or the same European countries decide to offer not just logistical support, but also to make soldiers available."

The bravado of the sudden intervention last Friday, popular with many in France, appears to be turning to a hint of bitterness that allies have not backed them more, with high-profile figures and ordinary citizens complaining the Mali mission is "France alone."

That sentiment directed at allies is being expressed in France by people commenting on Twitter and by Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner, who told Britain's Channel 4 France is waiting for British help. "I beg you, don't leave the French alone," he said.

France, which now has 1,400 troops in Mali and is expecting to send 1,100 more, has already asked allies, including Canada, to extend and expand their military support.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Thursday the United States will provide indirect assistance such as intelligence and transport help for France, and pre-deployment training and airlift for African troops.

Other African countries are willing to send troops but NATO has been reluctant to get involved in what might be another long term commitment. Sothe French will go it alone and hope that other African nations can bail them out of their ill-considered intervention.

Dear France,

Use cluster bombs.

LOTS of them.

Sincerely,
Ben

It is unbelievable to me that France does not have the airlift capability to sustain such a small force, not that far from France or other French bases in Africa.

The RCAF, the RAF, the Luftwaffe, and now the USAF have all been asked for help. Don't they have any military transports? Don't they have any civilian transports?

“Don’t they have any military transports? Don’t they have any civilian transports?”

They have already accomplished what Obama is doing here - reduce the military to pay for the welfare state.

They need more troops to assist in raising all those white flags. They can’t even surrender without help. Viva la france.

Forget about payback for Iraq intransigence. I think the US, especially, remembers all too well what happened the last time we went in to protect French colonial interests, though in that era, the enemy were Communists, not Islamists.

The French might be fighting Obama-supplied weapons
in the AQIM and AQAP. Also, the Touaregs which have
joined al Qaeda were trained by US special forces.

Obama is ON TRACK as he continues to make the world
Islamic, terrorist, antiFreedom and antiAmerican.

The French were the most strongly in favor of the intervention against Kaddafi in Libya, with England and—of course—Barry Hussein, strongly supportive. The French played a critical role in organizing the “NATO” war against Libyal, although we provided most of the forces.

That led to handing Libya over to the Muslim terrorists, and the expulsion and/or killing of most of the black Africans who had been working there, having been brought in by Kaddafi, who offended the Arabs by his opening to black Africa.

The terrorists seized the weapons—and then many of them moved down into black Africa, to resume their attempted conquest of that area.

In other words, the French played a cricitical role in empowering these same Arab terrorists and their pals, whom they now wish to fight and expel from Mali.

To put it briefly, the French are jerks. They constantly support the wrong guys and then expect us to bail them out. Which we have, again and again.

Obama seems to be keen on getting our troops involved in Africa, but I doubt whether he wants to fight against the Muslim invaders—except possibly as a cover for other activities such as helping the Muslims in their conquests.

It is probably worth pointing out that France one of the major NATO allies in Afghanistan, and contributed thousands of troops there. It was only Iraq where they didn't lend aid.

France shoulda thought about the future when asked for overflight rights in the bombing of Muammar Muhammad Abu Minyar al-Gaddafi’s tents.

>>Obama seems to be keen on getting our troops involved in Africa<<

My Bro-in-law, a retired Navy SEAL, was recruited by Obama over a year ago for “Africa”—but declined.

Obama wants US in Africa.

Hello France,

Why not draft all those Algerians, Pakistanis and Somalis you adore putting on your welfare rolls?

Go ahead, let’s see who gets fragged.

We will give you no support, just like the airspace we were’t allowed to fly over. We save you twice in a century with the blood of tens of thousands of American boys in WW1 and WW2, go deal with the “Muslim Problem” yourself.

Those good Socialists are at the ready, correct?

FUF.

and why is this or iraq or afghanastan or libya or syria a NATO thing? no one has been abale to explain this to me. this would be like the soviet union sending WP troops to angola. instead they used cubans.

It wouldn’t surprise me one bit if BO sent troops, you know without approval from Congress as he usually does. Then our troops would have American weapons turned on them that Obama supplied to Al Qaeda.

Maybe we should help them move sand to the Champs-Elysées so the Muzzies can march in the sand next to the trees there so the Nazis can march in the shade.

Wasn’t Mitt Romney predicting problems in Mali back during the Pres. campaign and everyone was laughing at him?
