The al Qaeda group responsible for a raid on a natural gas field in eastern Algerian earlier this week has reportedly demanded the release of two well-known, al Qaeda-linked jihadists in exchange for American hostages.
Citing Mauritania's ANI news agency, press reports indicate that the two jihadists are Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman (a.k.a. the "Blind Sheikh") and Aafia Siddiqui (a.k.a. "Lady Al Qaeda").
Sheikh Rahman was the spiritual head of the two leading Egyptian jihadist groups, Gamaa Islamiyya (IG) and Egyptian Islamic Jihad (EIJ). The latter group was headed by Ayman al Zawahiri, who merged his organization into al Qaeda. Rahman has long been revered by al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden, who was influenced by the Blind Sheikh, repeatedly demanded his release.
Rahman was convicted for his role in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and a follow-on plot against New York City landmarks.
Aafia Siddiqui was sentenced to prison in the US after grabbing a gun and firing at two Americans in July 2008 in Afghanistan. The Americans were attempting to question Siddiqui about her many nefarious ties. According to American intelligence and law enforcement officials, Siddiqui was a member of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed's al Qaeda network and was involved in that network's plotting against the US after Sept. 11, 2001.
The group responsible for the raid in Algeria and the hostage-swap proposal is headed by Mokhtar Belmokhtar, an infamous al Qaeda commander. In December, Belmokhtar's spokesman said that he remains loyal to al Qaeda central even though he has broken off from al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM). Belmokhtar's new group has been calling itself the "Those who Sign with Blood" brigade.
The demand to free Rahman and Siddiqui is a common one, especially from al Qaeda-linked groups, despite the slim to nonexistent chance that either will be released.
In a video released on Sept. 10, 2012, for instance, al Qaeda emir Ayman al Zawahiri issued the same ultimatum as the one released by Belmokhtar's group.
"And we, by the grace of Allah, have announced that we will not release the American captive Warren Weinstein, Allah willing, until the Crusaders release our captives including Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman and Aafia Siddiqui," Zawahiri said, according to a translation by the SITE Intelligence Group.
At a minimum, the latest demand is further evidence that Belmokhtar's group identifies itself as part of the global jihadist cause. Some accounts have attempted to portray Belmokhtar as a mere criminal despite his longtime service in al Qaeda-affiliated groups dating to the 1990s.
But one of the first statements issued by Belmokhtar's brigade after the assault in Algeria referenced the ongoing jihad in Syria. According to a translation by the SITE Intelligence Group, the statement also read: "This invasion comes in the global campaign of fighting the Jews and the Crusaders."
What? Obama and his MSM propaganda machine told us that the great Obama had al Qaueda on the run!
So, how does having al Qaeda "on the run" square with Benghazi, and now Algeria?
The response should be to execute one jihadist for every hostage killed or injured, plus another jihadist every day until the hostages are released.
If we empty the prisons of jihadists by sending them all to allah the satanic moon demon, then it’s a plus.
Obama, Holder and Clinton had this prepared
even before the Ambassador was raped and murdered.
Their evil plan just took a bit longer and few more lives
than they initially thought.
WILL SWAP AMERICANS FOR 'BLIND SHEIKH'...
REPORT: 32 hostages dead, missing in botched rescue...
At least 1 American dead in bloodbath...
Algeria launches second rescue effort...
Hostage holders make new threat...
Does anyone else see a pattern in all of this? I’m sure I’m not the only crazy one (am I?).
As many of you may have heard, there were rumors that the Administration was in discussion with the Muslim Brotherhood about releasing the Blind Sheik into their custody for “humanitarian” reasons. If I remember correctly, this was before the Benghazi incident, and it prompted members of Congress to warn the Administration that they had better not be considering this—to which the Administration assured everyone that they were NOT in these discussions.
Some have also remarked that the Benghazi incident was a planned kidnapping by this Administration that went south—where the Blind Sheik was supposed to be offered up for the release of the American hostages. Sort of a manufactured crisis to obtain their end goals, if you will.
I also thought that I had seen, just in the last week or two, that Morsi was again demanding that the Blind Sheik be released to their custody.
I wouldn’t put it past this Administration to be actively working with Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood to make this happen. Am I a nut?
I just posted something like this before I saw your reply. I was wondering if I was the only “crazy person” who thought this. Apparently, I am not. :-)
What is important is that you pay attention to preparing to turn over your weapons, peasant. Leave the important stuff to the experts. Has nothing to do with you. The muzzle liam in chief will deal with it on your behalf and you will like it whether you want to or not.
Why has the Obama Administration been so quiet in their response to this. Any other American President in history would have been publicly and forcefully demanding their release-—OR ELSE!!!
Anyone wanting on or off this ping list, please advise.
Anyone wanting on or off this ping list, please advise.
I’d release ‘em all right, if you know what I mean.
I think we should borrow from that Mad Max movie. Strap that Sheikh mofo on the front of a tank and go at them.
No, you are certainly not alone in drawing this parallel and strong possibility.
Looks as if the American captive Warren Weinstein, in between a rock and a hard place. Doesn’t sound like he is going to see the light of freedom at this point.
hellary says it is an act of terror to do such. panetta says we are pursuing all who think like the above paragraph. the won reacted in horror and curled up in a corner mumbling something about the horror should a fellow moslem endure such treatment.
