The reason they are building Jeeps in China is because China puts up all sorts of barriers to entry for imports. The Jeep Wrangler fires in China have all been related to the the little-known Chinese practice of tearing down vehicles into base parts and then re-assembling them for “inspection”.

Chrysler would not do this if our gov’t had some intestinal fortitude and stood up to China’s tactics.

I am sure you are right.

BUT the real reason Obozo sold this to Fiat was to subsidize foreign competitors. And as usual his menions lied to protect him in the campaign.

They “bailed out” GM to give 1/2 the company to the labor union.

Obozo broke the law in this action, with no authority.

Do you remember where you saw this article? I have heard that the Chinese impose both tariff and non-tariff barriers, but this is the first mention of a tear-down followed by a rebuild that I've heard anywhere. It does make some kind of sense, given that I've heard imported vehicles cost almost triple what they do abroad, whereas the tariff is, as far as I recall, only about 30%.
