EMERYVILLE, Calif. (KGO) -- People are used to seeing TSA inspectors at airports but on Wednesday, a specialized team made their presence known at the Amtrak station in Emeryville. Train stations are difficult to secure because they're so wide open but on Wednesday, the TSA showed up unannounced to let the public, especially potential troublemakers, know that they are keeping an eye on the rails.
Amtrak passenger Vera Molina said she noticed all the black-clad TSA inspectors right away and it's a presence she appreciates. Asked if she would like to see them more often she said, "I would, can't hurt, just in case you never know." As part of their nationwide "Viper Team" effort, the Transportation Safety Administration put about a dozen agents at the station to see and be seen, although some of the inspectors also work undercover.
"The visible deterrent is making a presence known at the station, getting on the train, talking to passengers, lettings the bad guys know that we're here, and letting the passengers know that we're here

This article is pure government propaganda.
I guess the media forgot to tell us about some train bombing or something.
“Ver ah yo pepahs?!”
It sounds like some adolescent boy makes this crap up. “Duz ther yooniformz gotz SKULLZ??” Barney Fife with an arsenal.
Yup. Absolute propaganda. The only thing these TSass clowns know is yelling at people to remove their shoes and place their laptops in a plastic bin.
Just what bankrupt Amtrak needs. Another reason not to take the train.

I feel safer already, knowing they’re there in Washington.
...because I’m 1700 miles away from them. :-)
Next they’ll be walking through the trains picking people at random and saying “your papers, please.” And the irony of it will be lost on almost everyone....
Vera Molina may appreciate their presence, but they scare the living $hit out of me. I have quit flying, not out of fear of a terrorist attack, but out of fear of the government and their jackbooted thugs at airports. Now it looks like rail travel is also out. Now it looks like my only options are drive or take the Bloodhound bus.
I said Washington, I meant California.
Cut me some slack, the two words sound alike and the spelling is so darn close.
Emeryville is in California. It’s the last stop on the California Zephyr which originates in Chicago. It used to be one of America’s great train trips.
Obviously they are high capacity automatic assault TSA...
None of the comments on East Bay News were positive, all were negative.
“Looking for trouble where non exists,” as one commenter put it.
Phewww...I feel so much safer now.
>> Emeryville is in California.
Yep, just like the article said. What can I say — I learned my reading comprehension skillz in publik skool. :-)
Mrs. L and I have ridden that train half a dozen times. You have no idea how this much this article disturbs me.
May your chains rest lightly Vera.
I wondered where the staff of Soviet-era Pravda had gone after the fall of the USSR. I think I have the answer.
They have been on the ferries in the Bay Area as well, again, looking for trouble where none exists.
