Several unions have contributed to President Obamas inauguration.
At least nine unions are listed as donors to the inauguration, according to the latest update on the Presidential Inaugural Committees website. The committee has been releasing donors names to the inauguration every Friday for the past several weeks.
The unions that have donated to Obamas second inauguration include the American Federation of Government Employees; the American Postal Workers Union; the International Association of Fire Fighters; the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers; the Laborers International Union of North America; and the United Food & Commercial Workers.
Labor was a key ally of the president and Democratic candidates last election. Unions revved up their political operation and helped get voters to the polls in November for Obama in several vital battleground states.
Several unions endorsed Obama for reelection over his Republican challenger Mitt Romney. Labors relationship with the White House, however, has grown tense at times the latest episode being unions concerns over the president offering to cut Social Security benefits during fiscal-cliff negotiations with Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) last month.
Many corporations, including Bank of America, the Coca-Cola Company and FedEx, also appeared on the Inaugural committees donor list for the first time on Friday. Almost 20 corporations have now given to the inauguration.
Brand-name companies like AT&T and Microsoft already had been listed as contributors to the inaugural festivities.
Obama did not accept contributions from corporations as well as unions for his first inauguration. Donations were also capped at $50,000. Obama raised more than $53 million for his first inauguration.
This time, there is no cap on contributions or ban against corporate or union donations for Obamas second inauguration. Donors are also being offered several packages priced between $75,000 and $1 million to gain access to select events, including the inaugural ball and parade.
Lobbyists and political action committees are not permitted to give Obamas second inauguration, which was also the case in 2009.
The New York Times reported on Jan. 11 that the Presidential Inaugural Committee was struggling to meet its fundraising goal of $50 million. Representatives for the committee, however, have contended that they will have enough funds to meet the inaugurations needs.
The Presidential Inaugural Committee is disclosing less information about its donors when compared to 2009. The committee has released the donors names online this time, but not the contribution amount or the contributors occupation and city like they did for Obamas first inauguration, according to the Sunlight Foundation.
More information about the inaugurations donors will be released in a Federal Election Commission report. The committee must file that report 90 days after the inauguration takes place.
A few days ago. I saw where they were having trouble selling tickets to the Inaugural Ball. They were cutting the price. Haven’t heard anything lately, though
Yep, I’ve read that too. They’re having a hard time with his second inauguration and I’d bet his thugs are calling in all their IOUs, the unions are the first place they’ll put pressure on.
Flush twice if you live a long way from D.C. That would be my contribution to Dear Leader Zero.
You could not pay me to attend this for these radicals.
The parade that you attend (the crowds/some behavior) is never like what they show overall on television. You go attend; later.. watch on the news and they put on the puff images/the people going nuts and protesting are rarely shown for a democrat. Bush, it was nothing but the protesters being shown and they made it much worse than it was. (not to say the others did not get protested)
Union bosses spit on their members. I know about 30 union electricians and they all HATE Obama!
The inauguration is the sentencing of America to four long years of Punishment..
America is going into the slammer..
Lady Liberty will be gang raped daily..
And Uncle Sams gaydar pegged out..
.... Heck ..... why not? .... After all we now live in a European style Social Labor Government and no longer a Constitutional Republic.
I await the FECs report. I can continue to add to my boycott list. And compare that report to the one issued after the 2009 coronation to see who dropped off the donor rolls.
I heard that March for Life is outpacing participants inaguration
attendees for hotel rooms in DC. It’s the 40th anniversary of Roe v Wade so it’s going to be huge.
Got to agree R_Kangel. Actually, the formal swearing in will be on Sunday (hope it doesn’t interfere with Obama’s church attendance). This is all fluff, pomp, and BS. WE should pay for it?
Like it or not, Jackassbama won. Let his cronies pay for the party.
