Kirsten Powers: Obama Ignores Fox at News Conferences 'Because He Doesn't Want to be Embarrassed'

Fox News Watch host Jon Scott on Saturday asked his guests why President Obama typically ignores Fox News at his rare press conferences.

Kirsten Powers smartly answered, "Because he doesn't want to be embarrassed" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Kirsten Powers: Obama Ignores Fox at News Conferences 'Because He Doesn't Want to be Embarrassed'

JON SCOTT, HOST: Eric Ostermeier - to go to your point, Judy - at the University of Minnesota put together a piece called “Fox Still Shunned at Obama Press Conferences.” “A smart politics analysis,” he writes, “finds that ABC reporters have been called on the most frequently during Barack Obama’s solo news conferences followed by CBS, the Associated Press, and NBC with Fox News coming in at a distant ninth in less than half of the rate of the top outlets, less than 40 percent of the press conferences overall.” Why does the president not like to call on us?

KIRSTEN POWERS: Because he doesn't want to be embarrassed, really. Because when he's asked a question, the same way, you know, when Ed Henry asks questions in the, to Jay Carney, inevitably Jay Carney ends up looking stupid because he doesn't know how to answer the question. He’s used to pushing people around, and you know, it will be tenacious, he’ll get asked about something he doesn't want to get asked about, and he wants softballs.

Indeed.

Why call on Fox when the representatives there from virtually every other so-called news organization are on his team and wouldn't dare do anything that might challenge him?

For those interested, here's the UM analysis Scott referred to.

Dr. Krauthammer is a registered Democrat who worked for President Carter and was Vice President Mondale’s speechwriter. It takes about 10 seconds to find that out.

Twice just this last week - one incident was around the NRA ad and the importance of Obama’s children - and I’ll have to have my coffee before I can remember the other. But it’s really just an escalating problem with Krauthammer over the last 4-5 years

Yes. Krauthammer started as a liberal dem and has steadily moved right, which is a common trajectory for people who are smart, attentive, and intellectually honest. But he’s not a cradle conservative and has never pretended to be one. For an ex-liberal, he’s come an awfully long way. Today he’s clearly on the center-right side of things, but he’s heterodox on some issues.

We’ll know he’s come over all the way if he ever becomes pro-life or experiences a religious awakening. He wouldn’t be the first intellectual to reason his way back to faith, and Krauthammer is both smart enough and bold enough to do so, if he follows the right lead.

/I just did a search on her biography. I could find nothing about her being associated with or working for PBS/

Thanks and you are so right. Thought; oh, yes; 'mistake' - it was NPR; but NO.

Apparently; I crossed more than 'one wire'. In this case, with Monica Crowley (gone from Fox); or, maybe thinking of Lis Wiehl) both with 'NPR' resumes. As well; there was Mara Liasson (still, NPR); and 'of course'; Juan Williams and no doubt; missing more; perhaps. But to Kirsten; thanks for prompting the untangling; here.

(Kirsten's credentials are however; solidly Democrat. Given; however; her independent perspective; her fair-mindedness; who knows what political camp, Kirsten may finally lay claim to; or 'if'. . .)

She just praised obamacare with the lie that it had many of the things that the republicans wanted...she is certainly a leftist tool.

She’s one of the few remaining Dums with a shred of decency. I always feel like she’s on the verge of a breakdown.

That's disappointing. I will say, though, that of all the commentators, Krauthammer has been the voice of reason virtually every time he's opened his mouth. If I don't catch his interviews live on O'Reilly (which I watch only if a decent guest is on; can't stand the blowhard), I'll catch video clips via RealClearPolitics or Daily Beast.

Hey, nobody's perfect. Even disagree with Limbaugh and Sowell every once in a while.

This has nothing to do with perfect, that’s a straw argument. He is not nearly as intellectually consistent as Rush or Sowell, and he was way way behind the tea party issue and th Palin issue and the NRA issue compared to them.

Over the years Kraut has been excellent, but with due respect I am shocked you haven’t noticed his far leftward slippages in the last 4-5 years, his out of touch establishment mindset - and more to the point, the many other conservatives on message boards who have noticed this in droves during that time. He is barely a shell of the man he was 5 years, 10 years ago.

Juanny is either blinded by his liberal Marxist ideas or is just plain stupid.

Liberal Log-in-Eye syndrome. Juan cannot escape it. No question; he challenges 'logic and Reason'; because of it. Which in turn; leaves one to speculate whether there is long-term damage or not.

Beyond the suffering of Juan's bias; he appears otherwise; a genuinely 'nice guy'. Woe for him; if it becomes his only saving grace, however. Will be wishing for him; an 'Alan Colmes' exit.

Of course; Fox News needs it's Liberals; but share same antipathy, when Bob Beckel expounds; as he as 'challenged' a Lefty as any. Beyond Bob's limited, and skewed logic; he otherwise, appears to be a harmless, boorish/obnoxious Lib, teddy bear who truly believes there still is in fact; a big 'D' - Democrat Party. He appears as well; to be his own worst enemy; when expounding on the 'political'; and all else; for that matter.

Both Juan and Bob; because their 'humanity' appears in tact/visible; are tolerable; and have a 'likable' factor; or 'potential'; versus those Liberals; who are simply 'lethal' in their hate-filled Liberalism. Those 'many'; found elsewhere by way of a channel changer.
