Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today traveled to Rochester to sign the NY SAFE Act (Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act) that will give New York State the power to keep guns out of the hands of potential, felons and/or, potentially dangerous "mental health patients"... New York will ban any weapon without a magazine, as well as any magazine capable of containing a round. Also require, instant background checks on each round ammunition purchases at the time of sale.. The legislation will allow authorities to track ammunition purchases in real time to alert law enforcement , will closes a private sale "loophole"... and toughens criminal penalties on those who use "illegal guns."

Have a ball.
"Unintended" consequences: The obvious outcome will be that firearms owners will be reluctant to seek mental health counseling, since that will make their Second Amendment rights subject to the good will of a hostile state government. The results will be unfortunate, but they will provide more fodder for far left extremists who consider another mass murder a small price to pay for progress toward absolute government power over the little people.
Certainly hope New Yorkers will mount a challenge to this law.
I celebrate this, every single day.
New York can burn.
It is not wise to get an armed 81 year old great grandmother mad.
Sticks that look like guns? The horror!
Wow! Pretty much makes revolvers, breakopen shotguns, single shots, etc. illegal, doesn't it? Adding the "any magazine capable of containing a round" makes the rest of them illegal, too!

How about the REAL felons and criminals out there? Oh, I forgot, they have the ACLU and their rights protected.
This is really like the Soviet Union back in the communist days where the certify anyone that is a political enemy (or potential political eneny) as mentally defective and they are incarcerated in a mental institution for the rest of their life or until they become good communists (Democrats).
The state of New York and the city of New York are a blistering boil on the butt of America.
I’d reply to that, but I’m off in the woods looking for an assault tree trunk.
I left in 1974. Never looked back and glad to be out of the place.
I would have left in 1974 but I was underage
Yep I picked up on that “potential” word there.
That could mean anyone.
No chance that this can be abused...
I joined the AF as an easy means of escape - best decision I ever made as a means of getting pointed in the right direction.
[I left in 1974]
I left in ‘76. The time may come when migrating to another state will restricted unless you have ‘proper papers’.
From the Safe Act:
“Using or carrying a firearm during drug trafficking or a violent felony will include a 5 year mandatory minimum sentence if the gun is loaded and a 3½ year mandatory minimum if unloaded. (The Court could impose a lower sentence in drug trafficking cases depending on mitigating factors).”
If they were serious about solving the “gang bangers” or the criminal element and gun violence the penalty would be life without parole.
The government needs these criminals on the street to justify the bloated government, departments of police and judges. They need criminals on the street or the penalty’s would be more severe!
I can picture our movements being controlled/monitored (probably already monitored more than most realize) a lot more tithtly. Currently in MS and expect to remain until I die.
