Pranav Kalyan, who lives in California, became the world’s youngest person to pass the examination to become an authorised Microsoft technology specialist.
Now, the fourth grader, who is of Indian origin, has become the youngest Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist.

Get them while they are young. If he’s sufficiently qualified, good for him.
That sure says a lot about the test being easy.

In another year he can join the other 10 year olds who write the past and current code for the Microsoft Internet Explorer that we have all come to adore and love.....and trust completely.
The MCTS is skill-specific, so which area did this kid get his? Some of MS’s stuff is simpler than others.
And yes, this likely says a lot more about his ability to pass the test and/or how easy the particular test he took is, than it does about his actual ability to manipulate the technology. I hope he’s as good as the article seems to want to portray him as. Unfortunately, way back in the day, shortly before they revised it, there was a kid not much older than him who landed the top MS cert of the day, MCSE for Windows NT4.
Realistically, there are plenty of outfits out there that will sell you a little software package that will guarantee that you pass the test. A java dev I know of in Plano TX is working today because of one.
Another ten years and federal prosecutors can start to hound him because geniuses cannot be allowed to be eccentric.
Given that they’re back to Whole Words now in the schools (they call them “Sight Words”, to keep us extremists off balance), the fact that this kid can even read well enough to take a test like that at age 9 is rather remarkable.
Obviously his parents took control of his education - which is the main reason Indians run circles around Americans as a whole in this country.
Plenty of afterschooling, preschooling, and homeschooling going on in this boy's life and I bet the school is taking full credit for the hard work done by the parents, the child, and any tutors.
I bet Headsprout and Raz Kids are found on that family's computers. My grandchildren have, and are, learning to read using these programs.

Nice, you mean parents don’t even have to wing it anymore (like I did), or pay big bucks? I’ll keep these in mind for future little tykes.
Of course you do know the MAJOR PROBLEM with these approaches. Using one implies that you don’t trust the public schools to teach your kids...and that is considered EXTREMISM, even on this site.
