NASHVILLE-- Efforts to land the assembly of another Volkswagen model in Tennessee have been kicked into high gear following the German automaker's unveiling of its CrossBlue SUV prototype at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit last week.

Officials hope their chances won't be undermined by renewed efforts in the state Legislature to enact a law to guarantee employees the right to store firearms in vehicles parked at work.

Volkswagen, which has given largely glowing reviews of its experience in Tennessee, has spoken out against the guns proposal as hurting the company's security efforts at the plant. ....

So build them in California or NY where its "safe" and will cost much much more.

To be quite honest Volkswagens arent what they used to be.

Their record inthe last few years hasn’t been that good and some of their models require premium gasoline. Be sure to ask before you buy one.

Be that as it may, Volkswagen sales were up 35% in 2012 over 2011, easily the biggest gain of the larger brands.

Benjamin Franklin, Testimony Against the Stamp Act (1766)

Good stuff with an appropriate answer to the final question.

Q. What used to be the pride of the Americans?

A. To indulge in the fashions and manufactures of Great Britain.

Q. What is now their pride?

A. To wear their old clothes over again, till they can make new ones.

Well, one thing I know for sure is that the Passat TDI doesn’t require premium gasoline. :>)

That is merely another indicator of the decline of our society. IMHO, the greatest percentage of liberal (indicated by Obama stickers on the car) a******* on the road drive VW's.

If Hitler’s People’s Wagons doesn’t want to do business in TN, then we know exactly who our enemy is.

Maybe years ago, but doesn’t look that way to me these days. Even Volvos have lost their counter-culture appeal.

Prius of course, Subarus and Saturns, Scions and Saabs have long-ago replaced VWs and Volvos among the politically correct crowd.

Although the average person these days acts like a lib, so maybe you’re right.

Thanks, I'll keep my F-150 Crew cab with the USMC Plates, Parent of a Marine - bumper sticker, and on the other side a "Live Free or Die" bumper sticker - as if I'm not already on enough lists.

Semper Fi,

“law to guarantee employees the right to store firearms in vehicles parked at work.”

Seems like a misguided law to me. Private property owners ought to be able to tell others what they can and cannot do on the owner’s property, including bringing or carrying a firearm. It would then be the potential employee’s decision whether to work there or not. The government shouldn’t be promoting one freedom at the cost of restrictions another.

Well, they could repent and replace the cup holder with a holster. I’m sure that will improve their image.

Actually, VW’s reliability record has improved significantly in the last few years.

But an employer can control what an employee (or anyone else) can bring on to the employer’s property, including the parking lot.
