One of the most transformative aspects of Obamacare is that it conscripts state governments for the purpose of providing subsidized health insurance to their residents. Most red states have done their best to refuse, by declining to expand their Medicaid programs, and by passing up the opportunity to set up state-based insurance exchanges, through which Obamacares subsidies would flow. But a handful of Republican governors are doing their part to implement Obamacare. Arizonas Jan Brewer, in particular, is proposing to do so in a way that sheds a lot of light onto the trap that Obamacare has set for state governments.
Earlier this week, Gov. Brewer recommended that Arizona go along with Obamacares Medicaid expansion. Previously, parents and childless adults in Arizona were eligible for Medicaid if their income was below 100 percent of the federal poverty level. Gov. Brewers expansion would expand Medicaid eligibility to adults with income between 100 and 133 percent of FPL, and take additional federal money to fund Medicaid for childless adults below the poverty line.

One minute Jan Brewer does something that encourages me then in the next she turns 180* degrees. I can’t make up my mind about her.
At least Gov. Jay Nixon (D-MO) has a veto-proof Republican House and Senate to slow him down and/or stop him. We citizens must be there to support our freedom-loving legislators in both houses.
Brewer’s been off the res since she won the primary for Governor last time. She is *not* one of us. We did get a couple of good gun bills signed before then.
“What good is a Republican Governor who buckles to Democrat demands?”
Nothing.
But yet there are those around here who say we should the pub party no matter what....

Has she gone goofy?
No and my gov (WI)Scott Walker is being urged to do the same. Have to know advantages and disadvantages before I jump into this.
WELCOME TO THE REAL WORLD
Many states are presently funding Medicare/or state healthcare plans (in WI it’s Badgercare) for those people at that below poverty level. If it shifts the level of funding requiring extra state taxation from the state to the country it may have some benefits. The democrats here in WI under a previous governor (Doyle) had Badgercare exclusively funded by cigarrette taxes which of course is going broke. It was also supposed to be supported by the smoking settlement funds which like the road funds went into funding teachers and state union pensions. These were huge funds worth billions which all went to balancing previous state budgets. Brewer is probably going through the same thing Walker is with Nappy being her predecessor I’m sure of it.
I don’t know much about her administration but I’ll bet that’s the case.
Republican Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer To Raise Taxes To Pay For Obamacare Medicaid Expansion
That's as real as it gets.
Impeach Nixon!
BUMP
Haven't seen them. Can you name one or two?
Thanks.
Any Arizonigans know how the legislature is leaning?
Don’t blame Jan Brewer. Blame Barack Obama and John Roberts. Benedict Arnold had nothing on them.
One thing that this article doesn’t cover is how hard Arizona has been financially hurt by illegal aliens. She’s busted her butt to try to force the feds to enforce deportation laws and they just won’t do it.
So if the feds won’t stop illegals from being here, if they insist that hospitals treat illegals on their own dime, if AZ has to bear the burden of illegal crime; then the feds can help pay for this burden. (At least, that’s what I think she’s thinking.)
Arizona made it easy to get financial aid in order to get illegals on the roles so they’d get at least partial reimbursement for the massive medical losses by this group.
“Robbing” other states to pay for the plight that the Federal government has put AZ in, is a bit harsh. I think that it’s harsh that AZ can’t get Federal help to deal with the actual problem.
And yes, I think that the Feds owe Texas, too. Those two states have had to bear the brunt of the illegal immigrant problem and they’ve done everything in their power to get real help.
sc justices are vetted more than anyone in politics. A republican appointed him. That tells me a lot about the republican party.
