Utah Sheriffs take stance on gun control
Fox 13 Utah ^ | 20 Jan 2013

Posted on 01/20/2013 7:42:31 PM PST by glock rocks

The Utah Sheriffs' Association has written a strongly worded letter to President Obama on the issue of gun control. Even though the president's executive orders and suggested legislation don't mention confiscating firearms, the sheriffs seem to anticipate such a move. Part of the letter reads, "No federal official will be permitted to descend upon our constituents and take from them what the Bill of Rights—in particular Amendment II—has given them." The Sheriffs in 28 of 29 Utah counties have signed the letter, with Jim Winder of Salt Lake County being the only Sheriff not to join in.

Yeah but Joe and his step’n fetch it Precedent don’t listen to anyone but major city and county officials where they have a democratic socialists bunch of sheep that depend on the federalism sugar tit .....

They don’t even read minor cities and counties mail from conservatives.....

The County Sheriff is our best hope at nullification of these executive Orders and other unconstitutional BS.

My opinion....

Stay safe GR !

There is a US Supreme court case which says STATES MAY CONFER MORE RIGHTS ON ITS CITIZENS THAN THE US DOES. Maybe state legislation is the wayy to go

11. Larimer County, Colorado Sheriff Justin Smith

Woo hoo!!! That's my man. And he was the second strongest candidate for Sheriff on the 2nd Amendment. But the difference in their positions on that was minimal and Justin had a lot more practical experience.

If you go to the link at the top and read comments, people are adding names. Sheriffs are still signing on.

I’m happy that so many Sheriffs from OR and CA are on board. Both OR and CA are actually each two states - the cities, and rural. CA is also divided coast/inland.

My loathing and hatred for leftists is increasing so much I have to sit back in my seat, sort of like in an accelerating airplane before it lifts off....

I was sure glad to see my Sheriff on the list. Now I don’t have to call him and ask him where he stands. I voted for the other guy because of the 2nd Amendment stand he took. But with the gigantic forest fire we had last summer it turned out to be a good thing the guy with the most experience, in that Sheriff’s office, was in charge. Every first responder was tested to the max. Great people! I am very humbled at how professional and dedicated they all are.

I’m hoping that at some point in the future a segment of the liberal population finally wake up and realize that their thoughts are not their own and that are being used to accomplish some very evil objectives that will result in a complete tyranny unlike that ever seen before with technology as the weapon and yoke. I think it might suddenly dawn on them that they’ve been used and realize that it will affect them too but it might be too late. These young ones are too naive and trusting of their own government and can be convinced that the guy at the helm is okay just because he smiles and bumps elbows with celebrities.

I live in South Orange County, supposedly the last coastal Republican enclave in California.

We have a Sheriff that came to power after the scandal that cost Mike Corona his position and his freedom.

The new Sheriff, who came from the L.A. County Sheriff's Department, starting rescinding CCW’s that were issued by Mike Corona. She will only issue a CCW if you are in an occupation that has a high degree of personal security risk, which we all know is one of the things the Framers wrote into the Second Amendment./s

She was Elected and Reelected, while sticking to her anti Second Amendment position, so it looks like Orange County, once the home of the Nixon Western White House, is in the process of falling into the Pit of Liberal Hell.

Mt FRiend, although I admire your optimism that the Liberal amongst us will have some sort of Epiphany regarding the overreaching power of the Federal Government, I am reminded of a favorite sayings of a former Employee of mine who happened to be a Retired Navy Chief.

Spit in one hand and Wish in the other and see which one fills up first.

God bless the Sheriffs that are signing on and doing this. We need thousands not just hundreds of letters from the Sheriffs around the country to make a difference. They and most people of any intellect at all realize that the Amendments were added to deal with unjust abuses of the British kings in Engand and that the concepts that they evolved were from over 600 period time frame and well thought out. They work together like a tongue in grove joint. Take away one it weakens the other; those trying to change the 1st and 2nd amendments know what they are doing. Now it seems as though they want to challenge the 5th Amendment if you refuse to incriminate yourself. We have to remove these types of thinkers from our government or they are going to hand these keys to the WH right over to the enemy they haven’t already.

I notice that Collin County, Texas is on the list. Time to make some calls and find out why Denton County isn’t as well.

Shouldn't have hit 'post' so soon. To follow up on my previous post, here's what's on the Denton County website:

Gun Control Statement:

As the Sheriff of Denton County, I am sworn to uphold the Constitution of the State of Texas and of the United States.  With the recent events, gun control has become a much more significant and perhaps controversial topic of conversation throughout the U.S.

Gun safety begins with individuals and each person should take measures to insure that the weapons they own are used responsibly.   I plan to continue to uphold the laws as they are in place at this time and will not speculate on what may or may not happen in the future.

Sheriff William B. Travis

Not enough IMO.

The Constitution creates the FedGov, and describes it's limits. That's all it does.

Lawyers and politicians have subsequently spent the last 200+ years trying to convince us that the Constitution means something that it does not say, and/or says something it does not mean.

The Second Amendment did not give us the right to bear arms but prohibited the federal government from infringing the innate right to bear arms for defending one’s self.
