Woman protected from rapist by boy, 14, with hunting knife after she leaps from car
http://usnews.nbcnews.com ^ | january 18, 2013 | Andrew Mach

It was a night of mayhem and bravery that central Michigan will not soon forget.

A young woman who was abducted at gunpoint made a daring escape Wednesday night from her rapist into a house full of kids that was later set on fire by her attacker, police said.

The suspect, identified as Eric Lee Ramsey, 30, of Mt. Pleasant, Mich., was later fatally shot by police after he got into a series of hit and runs with police vehicles in a sanitation truck he had stolen. But before he died, he apparently tweeted that he was going to be shot.

The incident began Wednesday when Ramsey allegedly kidnapped the woman from Central Michigan University's campus, and brought her to a home where he bound and sexually assaulted her, according to a statement from Isabella County Sheriff Leo Mioduszewski.

Ramsey then put the woman in the back of a car, retrieved two gas cans and began driving. He purportedly told the woman “he was going to take her life,” Mioduszewski said. After hearing that, the woman jumped out of the car and ran to a nearby home, she told police.

Eric Ramsey, a Michigan Dept. of Corrections parolee, was shot and killed by police after allegedly abducting and sexually assaulting a CMU student, setting a house on fire and stealing a sanitation truck that he rammed into police vehicles.

Alone inside that Lincoln Township home were a 14-year-old boy and his 11-year-old sister and 2-year-old brother. The teenager, James Persyn III, told Mlive.com that he let the woman in, locked the door and grabbed his hunting knife.

Who was this guy tweeting, his prison buddies?

How does one just get in a sanitation truck and drive off? I can't imagine they are just lined up on the street with keys in ignition. Also how convenient he trashed his own car and then boom out of nowhere he just so happens to find a vehicle unlocked with keys in ignition to steal. This almost sounds like an episode of bait car, uh I mean bait garbage truck.

Just another woman victimized by an opportunistic freak who took advantage of the campus being a gun free zone?

They will probably limit the amount of fuel purchased from this point when filling up one’s gas can...

But like you said, let’s not let the students carry a CCW for protection — that would be totally wrong (sarc)

Everyone's missing the point.

The MSM only tells stories that will support their agenda.

The point is: the teenager didn't need a gun to protect the victim. He was just as effective with a knife.

You ask too many questions!

The MSM asks all the questions you need to know, if the gov’t wanted you to know more, they would have told the MSM, this is especially true in politics, but prevails across the board.

Ours is not to reason why, trust the gov’t or die!

Strange headline, because the story doesn’t make it sound as though the knife was ever used or even came into play.

The woman owes her life to that boy letting her into the house, even though it was a dangerous thing to do with 2 other small children in the home.

Of course if he’d had a hunting rifle instead of a hunting knife the house probably wouldn’t have been torched and a lot of cars wouldn’t need body work, but hey...

Had the man been determined to get into the house, he would have killed all four.

It was quite likely the fear of the home being protected by a gun that prevented the perp from coming in.

The boy needed a gun. A 14 year old in Texas used the family AR-15 to fight off two perps from his home and little sister, just two weeks ago.

I’d rather fix the car and the house then have my 14 yr old live with the fact he’d killed someone. Even a scumbag such as this.

They would have been in trouble if they guy had tried to get in the house, but he didnt.

“... the woman owes her life to that boy...”

She does owe her life to that boy. What a horrible decision. Let the screaming woman into his home or keep the door closed to protect his younger siblings. He was faced with a grown man dilemma and thank goodness all is well.

No one said anything about pulling the trigger. As in most cases simply being able to show the weapon might well suffice. The punk may have wanted to die by cop but may not have been so keen on being taken out by a schoolboy.

That's the dirty little secret about campuses. The crime rate for rape is extremely high, and many others aren't even reported.

One guy I knew who was at the time well known just spent five years in the clink for rape. Unlike this guy, he didn't look like the boogeyman. I wouldn't be shocked if he goes back to the clink someday, either. Hide the women when he's around.

One of our Michigan FReepers showed me a video a few weeks back of two female college students at Western proudly bragging that they feel perfectly safe wandering unarmed at all hours of the night.

And lets not forget the feminists at UofM who threw a tantrum after police suggested that women not wander the streets alone at night.

One of the many reasons I avoided going to “an actual college” like the plauge.

I did quite well working a full time job and going to “just a tech school”.

“College campuses are prime hunting grounds for rapists. Lots of educated idiots wandering unarmed at all hours of the night.”

Educated FEMALE idiots watch all those TV and movies that show an empowered 110-lb female beating the stuffing out of a 250-lb guy. On TV and in movies the female can win in a physical fight. . .see. . .and all those self-defense courses taught by the feminists on campus add to this nonsense by convincing them they are peers when it comes to a physical confrontation.

Nothing wrong with a self-defense course, as it is, but teaching one to use their brain and common-sense as first weapons should be the focus.

That may be true, but we can’t ignore the unjustly accused (and imprisoned) men out there that feel victim to the feminist indoctrination hype that “all sex is rape” and if after the act you feel guilty then you didn’t give consent. . .or you were drunk and had sex and now don’t want your boyfriend to think you did the nasty willingly. . .

As an aside, when my friends and I get into hypothetical SHTF discussions and we discuss what we’d grab if you had to grab one and run, they always howl with laughter when I say my .22LR.

It’s light, accurate and effective. Not to mention you could carry hundreds of rounds on you rather easily.

A .22 doesn’t have much in the way of knockdown power but they’re fine for hunting small game and most people don’t want to get shot with one even if it doesn’t knock them down. They’re also relatively quiet which is a plus.

I have only been living in Michigan for the past 7 years - in that time, I have noticed prisons closing right and left. WHY ??? Don’t tell me it’s the budget because that’s bulldukey. If the State has any duty to its citizens, it is to keep dangerous people locked up. Who let this happen? Couldn’t have been all Granholm’s fault, could it? If so, why isn’t the current leader of our State doing something about it?

We currently have more than 40 operating prisons in Michigan after the closures. This listing isn’t complete.

http://www.michigan.gov/corrections/0,4551,7-119-1381_1385-—,00.html

Personally I think we have too many prisons and a poor record of paroling the wrong prisoners. After all, Granholm had deals with CA. and PA. to import inmates to Michigan.

There is no justification for putting bad people who have proven they’re unfixable back into Society. Change whatever needs to be changed to deal with that. I don’t know how many prisons Michigan needs, but something’s gotta give. The Rule of Law is going down the rathole.

ONE .22 round might not have much knockdown power,
but you can put 5-10 of them into a “target” fairly quickly.

In retrospect, yes. But I think it is not uncommon for a pair of criminals to use a ruse such as this to gain entrance to a house. It's a judgement call which I hope the boy made consciously, having been forewarned of such a possibility.
