It doesn’t even really sound 18th century, and uses a number of terms that didn’t yet exist when Washington lived.
Which doesn’t mean the sentiment isn’t valid, simply that the implied “appeal to authority” of assigning it to G. Washington is untrue.

Then I hope 2A advocates will stop using it, because it only diminishes their credibility when they do so.
To all 2A advocates: Don't automatically cite something unless you've checked it out for yourself. You may make yourself look like a fool, if the citation can be easily debunked. There is enough good information out there to use.
