Colin Powell Slams ‘Idiot Presentations’ by Some Republicans, Urges GOP Leaders to ‘Speak Out’

In an interview with ABC’s Diane Sawyer and George Stephanopoulos during ABC’s special inauguration day coverage this morning, former Secretary of State Colin Powell lashed out at people in the Republican Party who spent the last four years spreading “birther nonsense” and other “things that demonize the president,” calling on GOP leaders to denounce such talk — publicly.

“Republicans have to stop buying into things that demonize the president. I mean, why aren’t Republican leaders shouting out about all this birther nonsense and all these other things? They should speak out. This is the kind of intolerance that I’ve been talking about where these idiot presentations continue to be made and you don’t see the senior leadership of the party say, ‘No, that’s wrong.’ In fact, sometimes by not speaking out, they’re encouraging it. And the base keeps buying the stuff.

“And it’s killing the base of the party. I mean, 26 percent favorability rating for the party right now. It ought to be telling them something. So, instead of attacking me or whoever speaks like I do, look in the mirror and realize, ‘How are we going to win the next election?”

EXACTLY.

SOMEONE needs to press him on when, where, and how often he spoke up in defense of GWB and all the nasty things said about him.

Hagel, McCain, Powell all of them couldn’t find ONE positive thing to say about a REPUBLICAN president.

Colin Powell supporters probably don’t vote GOP anymore.

LOL, I never met a "Colin Powell supporter", but I'm pretty sure none of them ever voted GOP.

But as time passes and more and more of the truth sneaks out, looks as if it was Powell that put forth the ‘we've done enough’ strategy.

And that is PRECISELY what happened.

When the pics of the Highway of Death came back, Colon Bowell went weak-kneed and went to GHWB, overriding the field commander to stop the offensive and spare Saddam.

The history of the region, if not the world, turned on one spineless moment of weakness from Colon Bowell. The man is beyond redemption.

:: calling on GOP leaders to denounce such talk — publicly. ::

CP calls out the 6 “leaders” of the GOP that agree with him on such things.

FreeRepublic is quoted as saying, “Meh.”

This is what you get with affirmative action. Colin had promise, and did serve his country when asked. However, he took advantage of the times, and climbed the ladder not because he had exceptional talent over and above his peers, but because he is of a certain color. His judgment is flawed, his insight is muddied, and his loyalty to America is tarnished by his statements.

He chose to vote for Obama twice, which just proves that loyalty to someone who shares a percentage of African heritage, as he does, is more important than his loyalty to the American people and the Constitution of the United States.

In addition to total silence while President W Bush was demonized, Powell was totally silent while Scooter Libby and Karl Rove were wrung out and hung out to dry by a desperate prosecutor in the Valerie Plame leak case. All the while Powell KNEW it was his deputy Rich Armitage who was the leaker.

Speaking of remaining silent and causing others to be hauled before grand juries, near bankrupting themselves hiring lawyers, having their reputations ruined and in Libby’s case, going to JAIL over nothing.

No Powell, YOU look in the mirror instead of telling others to.

And Powell, you need to stop claiming “we” when mentioning the Republican Party. You are an Obama-ite and no Obama-ite can at the same time claim to be a Republican. The two are impossible together.

Oh, and did I mention you are a DISGRACE?

Has the Colon ever, even once, publicly condemned a Democrat for anything?

Has he ever spoken, even once, in support of anything considered to be a conservative position?

Colon just discovered early on that he got far more media attention as a traitor, when dealing with the enemy media. He is first and foremost a media whore and plays the only trick he knows to get in the news.

Just remember than nothing eminating this Colon is anything but crap.

John McCain better get busy or Powell is going to replace him as the MSM’s pretend-Republican go-to-guy when they need somebody to stab the party in the back (again).

And when do finally have to use nukes, my vote would be to strap Mr. Powell to the first bomb so he can have a ring side seat to what his stupidity caused!

His official, long form birth records were SEALED.
His Occidental College records were SEALED.
His Columbia College records were SEALED.
His Harvard College records were SEALED.
His College thesis – SEALED.
His Harvard Law Review articles – SEALED.
His Indonesian adoption records – SEALED.
His passport file – SEALED.
His medical records – Unavailable
His baptism records – Unavailable
His papers from his service in the Illinois legislature – Unavailable
His Illinois State Bar Association records - Unavailable

The birth certificate that the White House released is reputed by document experts to be false.

The Social Security number he has used was issued to someone else. He could not pass an E-Verify test. The first three numbers of his Social Security ID are reserved for applicants with Connecticut addresses, 040-049. The number was issued between 1977 and 1979. Obama’s earliest employment reportedly was in 1975 at a Baskin-Robbins in Oahu, Hawaii.

Many of the “facts” he cited in his two memoirs have turned out to be questionable, if not outright lies; particularly as regards his birth father, a citizen of Kenya at the time of his birth.

A job applicant with Obama’s paper trail would not even pass the smell test, but this man was elected and reelected. The role of journalism is to vet the credentials of anyone running for public office, let alone the highest office in the land. Instead, he has been protected against all inquiries and those making them have been called “birthers” or simply ignored.

Obama so routinely lies that keeping track of them would require a team of full-time archivists.

In August 2009 he said, “I have not said I was a single-payer supporter”, but in June 2003, as an Illinois state senator, he said, “I happen to be a proponent of a single-payer universal health care system.”

In March 2006, he said “Leadership means the buck stops here…I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America’s debt limit.” He is now into his second political battle to raise the debt limit. In July 2011, he said “It is not acceptable for us not to raise the debt ceiling and to allow the U.S. government to default.”

In response to a 1996 questionnaire he said “I favor legalizing same-sex marriages and would fight efforts to prohibit such marriages, but in November 2008 he said, “I believe that marriage is between a man and a woman. I am not in favor of gay marriage.”

He spent his first term blaming the nation’s economic ills on his predecessor, George W. Bush, saying in July 2008, that “he added $4 trillion by his lonesome, so that we now have over $9 trillion in debt that we are going to have to pay back. That’s irresponsible. It’s unpatriotic.” Today, the debt stands at more than $16 trillion because Obama added more to the debt than all previous presidents combined. For the first time in U.S. history, our credit rating was reduced and rating services are warning they will reduce it again.

He has a record of using executive orders to bypass the constitutional powers and duties of Congress. His most recent effort was 23 such orders regarding gun control at the same time Americans are buying guns as fast as they can, fearing the loss of the right to own and bear arms. This is the same President who just signed a law granting him and his family lifetime Secret Service protection.

He used “executive privilege” to cover-up the “Fast and Furious” scandal in which guns were allowed to be purchased and transported for use by Mexican drug cartel members.

He lied about the attack in Benghazi, Libya that killed a U.S. ambassador and encouraged members of his staff to spread the lie that it was “spontaneous” and the result of a video no one has seen.

He and the Democratic Party imposed “Obamacare” on the nation and its passage is already undermining the provision of healthcare services, driving up the cost of health insurance, and causing physicians and the providers of testing and other services to leave the profession and close their doors.

He no longer can blame President Bush, so now he blames the Republican Party that has offered solutions to the nation’s economic crisis that has worsened every day he has been in office. His foreign policy has consisted of apologizing for America and standing aside while one nation after another in the Middle East and northern Africa has fallen under the control of Islamist radicals. He is doing nothing to avoid the sequestration cuts that would harm national defense and a range of other government functions.

He has failed us. Congress has failed us.

I mean, why aren’t Republican leaders shouting out about all this birther nonsense and all these other things?

What's Powell even talking about there? Practically every identifiable Republican has run away from the birther talk for years.

It's beyond ridiculous how the MSM is now trotting this clown out as some sort of Republican to advise the Republican party on how it should address any and every issue. Powell has twice voted for Obama, the most leftist major party candidate in living memory.

To any reasonably rational person, Powell sounds like an idiot, and the MSM propagandists who use him to 'advise' Republicans look like a band of fools. But what is or isn't rational plays little or no part in the political dialogue of 21st century America.

Hey Powell, why don't you ask to see the man's SS card? That number doesn't work for the time frame it should.

I don't know what Bronco Bama is hiding but we know it's something. One doesn't have suspect SS cards and spend hundreds of thousands of dollars keeping records sealed for no reason.

The Republican party keeps losing in approval ratings because the party hasn't been represented by conservatives not because it's too conservative. what a dolt!

I don’t know what powell is talking about. There has not been much honest dialogue about obama’s eligibility.

I don’t agree with either “side” on this topic. One side says its obvious he is not eligible. The side says the opposite. Stil another conservative faction thinks its a lose/losse proposition so why waste the ammo

I disagree with all of them. I don’t know about obama specifically and its not about obama. My concern is there is no process to check eligibility. An awful precedent has been established. It has been politicized by both sides. Anyone can get in if they can get the votes. I want the rule of law upheld. Let chips fall where they may.

Committing forgery and fraud (allegedly) and being called out on it is demonizing, huh?

The Colon Powell apparently can’t handle the truth.

Is your copy of the excerpt provided here, or is it the entire Sermon text, as available on the LOC web site?

The excerpt provided in this thread only includes his "warning" about the dastardly challenges to the founding ideas being proposed by F. E. Abbott and his fellow "liberals" of the time.

His tracing of the history of nations, and especially, his documentation of his restatement of the ideas underlying America's Constitution and State Constitutions, is remarkable and puts the lie to what "liberals" and "progressives" have, for over 100 years, attempted to erase from the minds of citizens, as they have censored the nation's textbooks and public discourse of such documentation.

I came across the Centennial Sermone several years ago. As time goes by, it seems to take on even more significance than when I first read it.

Here is a link through which, by clicking on Arnett's name, anyone may access and read a full text version. As you can see, this alphabetical listing is only one section of the alphabet. There are other works in that Collection which could serve to correct some of the "progressive" movement's claims also.

Arnett, in his Sermon, however, provides his own documentation of the Christian foundations of the Republic, as gleaned from the writings, documents, State Constitutions, and various other means available to him, or within his own memory.

Someone on another thread last week provided the same listing of "demands" of "liberals," except the source was Disraeli, not Arnett.

“This is all a part of Obama’s divide and conquer the Republicans by 2014 strategy.

He knows he can’t get Democrat voters out in a midterm so he’s trying to suppress Repubican turn out by starting an intraparty war.”

DING DING DING

All part of the alinsky (read chicago) way.

Don’t buy into it indeed. It is about the oath, the constitution, and integrity. The American experiment in self government is about to go “pop” like the white dot on an old CRT black and white TV....or a broach closure.
