The Black Heritage Society is sponsoring the 35th annual "Original" MLK Parade beginning at 10 a.m. on the corner of Texas and Jackson in downtown. Glorice McPherson, event coordinator for the Black Heritage Society, said the festivities will include an awards gala, a health fair, and a groundbreaking for a statue of MLK Jr.
Charles Stamps, chairman and CEO for the MLK Parade Foundation, said the parade will have two battle of the bands contests this year instead of just one, as well as the youth parade.

"With both parades at the same time, I believe that Dr. King is just giving people as many ways as possible to unite in celebration of him," McPherson said. "It's like he's still bringing the people together."
If MLK were alive today the racialists in the media would be referring to him as a ‘cornbread brother’.
And of course the 2 parades are a Special Exemption from the city’s one parade a day policy.
The city of Houston only allows one parade permit per calendar day EXCEPT for this day.

No he wouldn’t. He would be leading the charge in the “up yours Whitie” brigade.
Maybe they’re separate parades for Stonewall Jackson Day and Robert E. Lee Day.
I love it - I would love to see the parades intersect and all hell break loose.
Maybe we should put in for a parade permit for Bobby Lee’s birthday next year. (Or ‘Confederate Hero’s Day’ here in Texas). But since the 19th falls on the Lord’s Day next year, we’ll need to push it a day later to Monday the 20th.
