You know what would really improve the quality of journalism, at least in the opinion of the EU? Give bureaucrats the power to fire reporters for, er,abuses. The European Union scolded the UK for not establishing a government “council” to oversee its media industry, and called for “councils” in every member state with the power to fire reporters that they deem outside the pale:

And don’t fall under the misapprehension that these “media councils” will operate independently, either. They will be under the jurisdiction of Brussels at all times:

From the Daily Telegraph
A European Union report has urged tight press regulation and demanded that Brussels officials are given control of national media supervisors with new powers to enforce fines or the sacking of journalists.

The “high level” recommendations that will be used to draft future EU legislation also attack David Cameron for failing to automatically implement proposals by the Lord Justice Leveson inquiry for a state regulation of British press.

A “high level” EU panel, that includes Latvia’s former president and a former German justice minister, was ordered by Neelie Kroes, European Commission vice-president, last year to report on “media freedom and pluralism”. It has concluded that it is time to introduce new rules to rein in the press.

“All EU countries should have independent media councils,” the report concluded.

“Media councils should have real enforcement powers, such as the imposition of fines, orders for printed or broadcast apologies, or removal of journalistic status.”

As well as setting up state regulators with draconian powers, the panel also recommended that the European Commission be placed in overall control in order to ensure that the new watchdogs do not breach EU laws.

“The national media councils should follow a set of European-wide standards and be monitored by the Commission to ensure that they comply with European values,” the report said.

NRO: Just a report, to be sure, but that it’s even out there says enough…

REgulate Democrats, and you’ll be regulating the mass murderers with the dangerous firearms.

REgulate the Democrats, and you’ll be regulating the vote fraud.

REgulate Democrats, and you’ll be regulating illegal gun use.

Regulate Democrats, and you’ll be regulating the budget deficits.

Regulate Democrats, and you’ll regulate unemployment.

Regulate Democrats, and you’ll regulate medical insurance fraud.

REgulate Democrats and you’ll regulate drug abuse.

Regulate Democrats, and you’ll be regulating public obscenity and public indecency.

Regulate Democratx, and you’ll be regulating their waging peace to make war, instead of waging war to make peace.

Regulate Democrats, and you’ll be regulating censorship and false propaganda in the news media.

I'm big on freedom of speech. I don't want speech to be regulated or censored. We don't need more regulation, but we do need to have more outlets for opposing views. TV, movies, schools, and newspapers in our country are almost totally under the control of people way to the left of center ideologically, and they are desperately trying to complete their hold on information by taking over radio and the Internet.

Big deal. “Journalists” here voluntarily put themselves under the control of the Gov’t and ostracize anyone who doesn’t toe the leftist line.

YOU KNOW WHAT?

Eff it.

I'm getting behind this.

The current scenario, with 'journalists' voluntarily getting behind communism, socialism, fascism and the American Police State, isn't working AT ALL, so I say eff it. Shake it up, at least. See if we cannot get some right-of-center politicians firing the likes of Gregory and his ilk.

A proposal to do formally what they now do informally.

The left still needs the perception of the 1st amendment, free press, Hollywood, etc in order to spread sedition. When they’re done “transforming” America, some pretext will be found to curtail all of our protections under the Bill of Rights, including free speech. When it’s done, the media will be state controlled.

State control is worse than a monopoly because it can do more than ostracize—the state will terrorize under the guise of law.
