Nicolas Sarkozy is preparing to move to London to set up a billion pounds plus investment fund, it was claimed today.

If the move goes ahead, the controversial Frenchman will become the latest to escape a potential top tax rate of 75 per cent in his home country.

He and his former supermodel third wife Carla Bruni-Sarkozy would be likely to settle in an affluent district like South Kensington – so becoming the most high profile Gallic celebrity couple in the city.

Imagine making a million dollars a year and having to give most of it to the government?

Why bother?

Take home $250K after taxes? I would move too... In one year you save enough to buy a house almost anywhere on teh planet

The problem with Socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money. - Margaret Thatcher

Funny the French escaping to England.

Nothing new.

Let me tell you how it will be;
There's one for you, nineteen for me.
'Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.

Should five per cent appear too small,
Be thankful I don't take it all.
'Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.

(if you drive a car, car;) - I’ll tax the street;
(if you try to sit, sit;) - I’ll tax your seat;
(if you get too cold, cold;) - I’ll tax the heat;
(if you take a walk, walk;) - I'll tax your feet.

Taxman!

'Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.

Don't ask me what I want it for, (ah-ah, mister Wilson)
If you don't want to pay some more. (ah-ah, mister Heath)
'Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.

Now my advice for those who die, (taxman)
Declare the pennies on your eyes. (taxman)
'Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.

And you're working for no one but me.

Taxman!

You should give credit where it is due.

They may escape the taxes, but they won’t escape the Muslims...rising putrid tide nearly everywhere in Europe.

Don’t understand this...London and the UK not much better, tax-wise...
should move to Monaco...good tax shelters there, warmer, prettier and they speak French.

it was claimed today

Uh-huh. But folks still suck it up as if it were God's own truth. C'mon, Brits are fleeing the country as fast as they can, but some big-wig Frenchie is going to move *there* (of all possible places) to be fleeced in their stead? Really?

I can understand Russian mobsters moving there to avoid being whacked (for a while - Putin's metaphorical arm is longer than his actual appendage), and those petro-dollar muzzies who go there for the booze and sex, but anyone else in their right mind?

Yes, 200 years ago this would cause a major diplomatic incident; somebody in France might even see it as an act of war.

Carla Bruni appeared in a couple of scenes in Woody Allen’s “Midnight In Paris” sometime in the past year or two, I don’t doubt that Woody won’t make more movies in France under this level of tax.
