WASHINGTON A new Associated Press-GfK poll has found that more than 60 percent of Americans now favor allowing a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants already in the country.
That's a significantly higher number than last time the AP polled on the question, in 2010, when just 50 percent supported the idea.
The turnaround has been driven by Republicans changing their views. A majority in the GOP 53 percent now favor allowing illegal immigrants a path to citizenship. That's up 22 percentage points from 2010.

Well, Shazaam! Only back in office 24 hours, and already he’s got our minds right!
A lot depends on how the questions are asked. Many would presume that the system would be both sane and enforceable. That’s not likely!
You know it’s so fascinating how we just want to reward and pat those who broke our laws on the back, when other countries will blow you to smithereens for crossing their borders illegally......in either direction.
China and North Korea come to mind....
Most Americans want Illegal Aliens DEPORTED. Period.
Contrary to what Amnesty Liberals claim.
Illegal Alien Amnesty is Anti American Bigotry.
I wish I could describe how much I hate the MSM and their transparent political games.
That is interesting.
What are we to make of a media who avoids the mention of legal status like the Plague - unless the immigrant is from Europe?
That means that if the members of a special interest group simply ALWAYS answer the calls from pollsters, their opinion will register 11 Times their actual percentage of the sampled population!
For example, we just now got a call from a special interest group interested in drug rehabilitation ~ I elected to be among the 91% whose opinion wasn't actually reflected and not the 9% who answer their questions.
The Paulistas should jump for joy!
A lot of people, like Barack Obama and Eric Holder, think it is a good idea to ignore or break many other laws too.
That doesn’t make it morally right, ethically right, legal or constitutional.
There was a time the nation prided itself as having “A government of laws, and not of men” (as John Adams put it).
Now we not only have a government of men, we have a government of men who are crooks, charlatans and traitors.
There’s enough secret sauce being slopped about now to drown in it.
When I studied political science as a non major subject in college (I majored in engineering) I was told about polling methodologies that would move heaven and earth to get a scientifically accurate sample. And it took weeks if not months to do that.
If this were a MEXICAN nanny this couldn’t have happened no indeedy! /s
What percentage of California’s prison population was born in a Spanish speaking country?
Well good, then those 60% can take up a collection to pay for them.
Not with my money we don’t!
Carolyn Hodges, President of Texas Federation of Republican Women - firstname.lastname@example.org released the TFRW position statement today. Not surprised, since their organization is based in Austin.
Texas Federation of Republican Women-
Immigration Reform Policy
Whereas, The Texas Federation of Republican Women appointed a committee to study the issue of immigration, legal and illegal, in the United States and it met this obligation by hearing from and evaluating the positions of experts, recent immigrants, business and land owners, advocates, adversaries and law enforcement;
Whereas, Within the United States there currently reside between nine (9) and fifty (50) million undocumented residents from all cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and nationalities;
Whereas, Our current immigration policies rely on an antiquated system of geographic quotas and that the federal government has failed to modernize the system with available technology and entrance rubrics that reflect current social, educational and economic requirements and that such an outdated system serves to encourage illegal immigration;
Whereas, The economic, civil and criminal unrest in other countries has had a significant impact on illegal immigration at our borders and the federal government has refused to commit the resources necessary to adequately secure our physical borders;
Whereas, The federal government’s failure to properly secure our borders has led to the unconscionable treatment and death of people entering the United States illegally and the loss of life, liberty and property of American citizens to foreign criminal enterprise;
Whereas, Millions of children brought to this country illegally and who know no country other than America as their home will become adults in this country and, as such, it is in the best interest of these young people and our Nation that they become self-supporting, tax-paying, productive members of our society rather than to allow them to be another disenfranchised generation living in the shadows;
Whereas, We acknowledge the changing demographics of the United States as clearly illustrated by the increased voting strength of minorities and recently naturalized citizens, and the significant role immigrants have played in the history of our country; and
Whereas, The federal government has an urgent obligation to address the issue of immigration in this country; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the Texas Federation of Republican Women
strongly urges the federal government to expedite the resources necessary to finally secure United States borders;
Resolved, The Texas Federation of Republican Women calls on the federal government to immediately pass legislation and appropriate funds necessary to reform the current immigration system using state-of-the-art technology and create a guest worker program that documents guest workers and their families and requires them to pass health and criminal background checks, to be self-supporting, including the purchase of health and other required insurance, to pay taxes and to demonstrate a working knowledge of English in a reasonable amount of time in order to obtain permanent legal resident status; and
Resolved, The Texas Federation of Republican Women urges the federal government to expeditiously establish criteria for young people in this country illegally through no fault of their own to earn legal resident status or citizenship when they demonstrate English fluency and knowledge of American civics, comply with all health requirements, have no criminal record, graduate from an accredited high school, and pursue a college degree, trade certification or enter into military service.
Adopted by the Texas Federation of Republican Women, this, the 17th day of January, 2013
I wouldn't worry about polls anymore.
When is the treatment of American citizens in Mexico and their rights vs US treatment of Mexicans going to be an issue when we discuss amnesty ?
Ever hear of reciprocal aggrements ? These are arranged to protect the rights of American citizens working or living in other countries.
Why is it when it comes to citizens of other countries we are required to offer them the same privledges as we do to US citizens? But when it comes to US citizens who get in trouble or attempt to do business in other countries they do not get the same treatment their citizens get.
Americans cant own coast land in Mexico. And get no title to it elsewhere. If they run out of cash theyll get unceremoniously sent back or put in jail untill some relative comes up with the fresh. Thats just for starters as for granting them voting privledges yea lets give Mexican citizens that right when American citizens vote in their elections .
US immigration law is already the path to citizenship. What illegal alien advocates want is a way around crystal clear law.
