As a consequence of the early brethren using tobacco in their meetings, the Prophet was led to ponder upon the matter; consequently he inquired of the Lord concerning it. This revelation, known as the Word of Wisdom, was the result. The first three verses were originally written as an inspired introduction and description by the Prophet.

 

1–9, Use of wine, strong drinks, tobacco, and hot drinks proscribed; 10–17, Herbs, fruits, flesh, and grain are ordained for the use of man and of animals; 18–21, Obedience to gospel law, including the Word of Wisdom, brings temporal and spiritual blessings.

 

  1 A ^aWord OF Wisdom, for the benefit of the council of high priests, assembled in Kirtland, and the church, and also the saints in Zion—

  2 To be sent greeting; not by commandment or constraint, but by revelation and the ^aword of wisdom, showing forth the order and ^bwill of God in the temporal salvation of all saints in the last days—

  7 And, again, ^astrong drinks are not for the belly, but for the washing of your bodies.

  8 And again, tobacco is not for the ^abody, neither for the belly, and is not good for man, but is an herb for bruises and all sick cattle, to be used with judgment and skill.

  9 And again, hot drinks are not for the body or belly.

  10 And again, verily I say unto you, all wholesome ^aherbs God hath ordained for the constitution, nature, and use of man—

  11 Every herb in the season thereof, and every fruit in the season thereof; all these to be used with ^aprudence and ^bthanksgiving.

  12 Yea, ^aflesh also of ^bbeasts and of the fowls of the air, I, the Lord, have ordained for the use of man with thanksgiving; nevertheless they are to be used ^csparingly;

The answer is 'yes'. All of them. Your serial focus on one topic, and only one topic (with EXTREMELY rare exceptions), on Free Republic. This, I believe, is referred to as an 'obsession'.

I know darned well I cannot control you, nor would I want to. However, you are a person who clearly suffers, and I wanted to offer you more than just relief, but a solution. It is a solution that has worked for me. If you'd like to do more than post on Free Republic about a negative obsession in your life, and actually start to grow and live, contact me by freepmail. I may have a way out for you. You will still try to warn people about Mormonism, but it will no longer consume all of you.

I'd word it way differently. "Needing professional help" in an online discussion setting is often used in a disparaging way, and is often accompanied with antipathy.

Nothing could be farther from my mindset.

I'm tasked, in the 12th Step, with carrying the message to the addict/alcoholic who still suffers, and I actually broadened my charter to become ANYONE who still suffers. It's clear Elsie still suffers, so I am offering a way out. He or she can still campaign against Mormonism even after they take the suggestions that eventually become a solution, but they will find that it no longer consumes them so completely, nor does it dominate their thinking and emotions. They will find more balance and more healthy living.

SECTION 71

Revelation given to Joseph Smith the Prophet and Sidney Rigdon, at Hiram, Ohio, December 1, 1831. HC 1: 238–239. The Prophet had continued to translate the Bible with Sidney Rigdon as his scribe until this revelation was received, at which time it was temporarily laid aside so as to enable them to fulfill the instruction given herein. The brethren were to go forth to preach in order to allay the unfriendly feelings that had developed against the Church as a result of the publication of some newspaper articles by Ezra Booth, who had apostatized.

1–4, Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon are sent forth to proclaim the gospel; 5–11, Enemies of the saints shall be confounded.

You clearly haven't reached a bottom yet, that place whereinwhich you get the gift of desperation. Someday, you will realize that it is not Mormonism and exposure to it that broke you, but something else. Something much more internal to your identity. If you finally reach that place, look me up. At that point you will be ready to take certain steps.
