Here are a few highlights from Tiger Woods' Tuesday morning news conference in advance of this week's Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines.
--Tiger agrees with Phil?
Well, sort of.
Phil Mickelson made news this week when he said he might leave California because of the state's income tax laws.
"Well, I moved out of here back in '96 for that reason," Woods explained. "I enjoy Florida, but also I understand what he was, I think, trying to say. I think he'll probably explain it better and in a little more detail."
Mickelson's pre-tournament interview is scheduled for Wednesday.

And Tiger will apologize in 5...4...3..2...
Both of them probably voted for the turdOFTUS.
So Phil Mickelson has to pay --
States have set it up and courts have agreed: your state of residence does not matter, the state where the money is earned is the deciding factor. Earnings at a CA tournament will be taxed by that state — same thing happens to NBA and NFL players who are paid by the game. The key legal word is “locus”. If you are a Rush Limbaugh fan, you may recall his issue with NY on being taxed there for days he broadcasts from the NYC studio. Thus, Rush’s “Southern Command” in south FL.
Lefty can just forego the CA tournaments if he wants to avoid those taxes.
...but professional athletes, TV and radio personalities all get the privilege of paying state taxes on anything they earn in that particular state.
I’ve heard that Rush Limbaugh has been audited by the State of New York for something like 12 consecutive years - apparently, they want to bet their pound of flesh for every time he steps foot up there.
The large company I work for is starting to insist that we pay state income taxes to other states for every day that we’re there on business. They’re even taking it to the extreme that we are supposed to declare that in advance.
What makes you think Mickelson voted for Obama? This guy screams “Republican”
According to this site:
http://www.hollywoodrepublican.net/who-is-a-republican/
Tiger Woods is a Republican
Phil Mickelson is a Republican
( see 451 to 500 on the list of 737 ).
Woods made statements in favor of Obama prior to the election.
Golfers like Woods and Mickelson make 80-90% of their earnings from endorsements. Mickelson made somewhere in the neighborhood of $4 million in tournaments and approx $45 million in endorsement deals. Same for Tiger — just different amounts. Before Tiger’s fall he was making nearly $90 million a year in endorsement income. Moving to Florida would save Mickelson millions on his off course earnings.
I agree with your comment on the endorsement income and getting it removed from high tax states is a legitimate tax strategy. They just don’t have any options about the locus question on where they play/win and the taxes that will be extracted.
Lefty = Romney
Woods = Obama
They should figure some way to do a movie and then they could become exempt.
Soon, there will be no quality sporting events, nor sportsmen, in high tax states.
F___ the greed, sloth , and envy cretins that are savaging Phil.
>> “They just dont have any options about the locus question on where they play/win and the taxes that will be extracted.” <<
.
If enough pass on the opportunity to play in high tax states, the laws will change.
I’m serious:
If taxes go up much more or if I feel like I’m getting screwed by the Gov’t too much and freeloadrs are laughing, I’LL QUIT MY FRIGGIN’ JOB AND LIVE OFF MY SAVINGS & BARTER!
I’L DO MY PART TO STARVE THE BEAST!
Just think of all the good they could do with that money if governments weren’t forcibly taking it from them. They could create private sector jobs by buying more luxury goods. Every dollar spent in the private sector helps someone while each dollar spent in the public sector goes to grow the bureaucracy.
It’s not a coincidence that almost all pro golfers live in Texas and Florida-—where there’s no state income tax. Some of the Golf Channel commentators who are supposed to be selling the game were very critical of Mickelson for thinking out loud about doing something all the other golfers have been doing for years without press criticism or comment. Rosenforte should be fired.
