Over 150 sponsors pull out of Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show; causing concern over fate of show
CBS21 ^ | Jan. 22, 2013 | Chris Papst

The Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show is billed as the largest show of its kind in North America. But after the event made a decision to ban assault weapons and high capacity magazines, it may now lose that title.

"We felt that getting involved last year was a good business decision. It has a lot of coverage, a lot of exposure," said Ben Bode of Trop Gun Shop in Elizabethtown.

Trop was one of the first vendors to boycott the show, and their customers responded. Trop's Facebook page exploded with 'likes', they received letter, faxes and praise from clients.

But that's not the case for the nine-day-long show, which is scheduled to begin on February 2.

Since the announcement of the ban, this Facebook page calling for a boycott already has nearly 10,000 likes. This is the Facebook list of vendors that have pulled out; more than 175 along with 20 celebrity speakers.

"While it was certainly a big decision, we could not rectify participating in something like that with an organization that is not supporting our second amendment rights." Bode said.

We did ask Bode at Trop Gun Shop if the store would consider going back to the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show if the organizers dropped the ban. And he said no, the damage has been done.

The show has about 1200 vendors, so about 15% are gone.

Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a list of businesses that are boycotting the show so folks could actually order from THEM directly,,during the show?

Thinking it’s not just this year. Reed has exposed themselves. Wonder if this show will EVER be the same again. Hopefully and alternative show will spring up next year, built around those businesses who pulled out this year. Screw Reed.

>>I wonder if they had to pay a fee and will now lose their money.

I would think that by changing the rules at the last minute that the organizer would be at risk for lawsuits to force them to refund everything.

Pols in DC had better see the support and unity of the AR!

Pols in DC could care less about support and unity behind the AR. Next election is 22 months away. They're pretty sure we're all going to forget about this by then.

Besides, they still count their own votes. We've been pwned by 0bama and that's just the way it is.

Typically, if you pull out this close to the opening, it will be forfeit.

Then again if a sponsor pulled out because the rules were changed so that the sponsor could not display his legal products the sponsor would have a tort.

The Shot Show

15-18 Jan 2013
Firearms, Hunting & Outdoor Products & Law Enforcement Products.

Sands Expo & Convention Center, Las Vegas, NV, United States

This was one of Reed’s shows that just finished up. I can’t imagine this show blocking AR-15s and high cap magazines with law enforcement in attendance.

Looks like lots of lost income for the show’s sponsors, vendors, surrounding merchants, etc etc - that’ll help the middle class....

I wonder if they had to pay a fee and will now lose their money.

The should get back their fee, or the amount they would have been calculated to profit on sales at the show, whichever is greater. The promoter changed the product to one of less value to the buyer after the deal was done, so he owes it to them to make them whole. Hopefully it bankrupts them (the organizer).

I thought I had read somewhere that there would be no refunds for those who pull out of the show.

Be interesting to see if the jury at the lawsuit feels themselves bound by the arrogant proclamations of a bunch of contract-breaching rule-changing deadbeats. I'm guessing not.

I would think that by changing the rules at the last minute that the organizer would be at risk for lawsuits to force them to refund everything.

And not just the space rent. They entered a contract with the exhibitors which had the potential to be profitable for those vendors, otherwise they vendors wouldn't have bought in the first place. Just refunding the fee is no more than status quo ante. It doesn't cover the damage actually suffered by those they screwed with this decision.

One of the reasons the vendors should just show up and do what they want to do anyway is a concept called "moral suasion".

A POTUS does not necessarily possess that unless people grant it. This POTUS exercises it even when permission is not granted. The boycotting vendors granted the usurper power when they refused to show up and do their normal thing, in spite of the usurper.

Perhaps you didn't read the article. The vendors can't just show up and do what they'd planned to do at this event. The event organizers changed the rules of the event to bar so-called 'assault rifles', etc.

Those vendors now backing out, are doing so because they either manufacture or sell the aforementioned 'assault rifles'. Those rifles are also their biggest drawing items, but now they're not being allowed to display or sell them at this event.

This is a business decision on their part. They're going to lose income because of the event organizer's decision. These vendors also happen to fully support the 2nd Amendment, which is the moral side to their protest.
