Smith & Wesson pulls out of Pennsylvania sports show to protest restrictions on display
The Republican ^

Posted on 01/22/2013 5:29:53 PM PST by matt04

Smith & Wesson will not attend or support or participate in the 2013 Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show in Harrisburg, Pa. in response to organizers banning the display and sell of tactical-looking firearms often called assault rifles from the show.

Smith & Wesson manufacturers a successful line of what it and the industry calls “modern sporting rifles” under the M&P brand name.

...

In a news release, James Debney, president and CEO of Smith & Wesson, said: “As a market leader in the firearm industry and an iconic brand that spans 160 years of American history, we believe it is important to make our position perfectly clear: We support the Second Amendment and the rights of our law-abiding customers to purchase these and all legal firearms. Therefore, we are unable to support any organization or event that prohibits legal firearms, or otherwise restricts a citizen’s lawful and constitutional rights.”

Good Lord, Eaker. The map is excellent, but the commentary will invite the clowns who brought down the blue states to dilute the Texan conservative base. Don’t Californicate Texas. I recommend you start a movement to move Austin to, say, Eugene. Now that’s a move in the right direction!

Time to let that little piece of info “slip.” If we do this right, the only booth in the whole thing will be NPR broadcasting “catch and release.”

I sort of feel sorry for some of the small vendors, especially the outfitters. They're small business people who probably sunk a large part of their annual marketing budget into the show before the controversy brewed up.

Then Reed Exhibitions screwed them.

Now their stuck. Either walk away from their investment or show up and face smaller than anticipated crowds and the risk of boycotts.

The gun owner community needs to really get behind the people who have dropped out of this thing. Personally, I've never had a chance to go on an elk hunt before.

Without knowing the specifics of the contracts, have a few reps handing out pocket constitutions, etc. at the otherwise empty booths. Instead of merchandise, hang a huge banner with the company logo and the 2nd Amendment. I'd net the organizers would like that even less then on one showing up at the booth.

Stick out like sore thumb.

Each company made difficult decision about what’s best for their own company.
Reminds me of the scene in John Adams movie when all 13 states individually chose to be United.

Down the mountain into town at the local gun shop this morning, the regulars were talking about this show and people pulling out and the comment was made that the NRA had decided not to attend after all. Was that incorrect? Are they going to be there?

Only, eh? The NRA is the oldest civil rights organization in the United States. I support them with cash money. JPFO gets some of my cash money, as does GOA. I don't mind financing these organizations (mercs, in your book?) because I'm kinda busy working and raising kids.
