Ehud Halevy, the 21-year-old Jewish man from Brooklyn whose beating by New York police officers was caught on videotape, has filed a civil rights lawsuit against the officers responsible for the attack.
Halevy filed the lawsuit against officers Luis Vega and Yelena Bruzzese on Jan. 22 in Brooklyn federal court, accusing them of attacking him at a Jewish youth center in Crown Heights.
The surveillance video from October showed one of the officers punching Halevy repeatedly in the head, while another officer struck Halevy with a baton for over two minutes.
The officers, who were responding to an emergency phone call, said Halevy was sleeping naked on a couch in the lounge and refused to leave.
While Halevy claimed he had been granted permission to sleep at the center, he had nonetheless been charged with a felony count of assault and three misdemeanors: resisting arrest, obstruction and criminal trespass.

For some perspective, heeeres Rodney!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OauOPTwbqk
If only he was a koranimal the donut munchers would have left him alone.
I remember this guy. He was drunk and sleeping naked in the women’s section of the center and the security guard called the police and he refused to leave when they asked him to or and then refused to be handcuffed. So he is suing why???
He wasn’t naked. Maybe he mouthed off a bit, but the cops just started swinging on him.
The victim landed no blows.
That’s not what *I* saw on the video. He was sleeping on a sofa by the pool table, and he had track pants on, therefore he was far from naked.
His crime: not kow-towing to the might of officer jackboot.
Witnesses at the center say that he was drunk, and naked, and became belligerent when he was told to put his pants on.
Read the article.
If anything he should be suing the center. After all it was their security guard who called the police and told the police he was trespassing.
“Witnesses at the center say that he was drunk, and naked, and became belligerent when he was told to put his pants on.”
Okay, So that justified the cops beating the sh*t out of him. Thanks for the explanation.
He was asked to leave the facility and refused. They then attempted to handcuff him and he resisted. When you resist being handcuffed and resist arrest the police have the lawful right to use force to get you to comply. Try it some time and find out.
You’re Welcome.

You are well suited to being ruled by other people.
Your jackboots need more spitshine.
Hop to it, bo.
This loser turns up on my porch (let alone in the house) drunk, asleep and naked—and belligerent when awakened—he’s going to wish the cops were there to manhandle him.
Some of you others are welcome to him.
That was not lawful use of force, that was a jack boot teaching a lesson. As soon as the guy resisted being handcuffed the jack boot took up a boxing stance and then started throwing heymakers and uppercuts. Not once did the victim make an agressive move. Somehow I doubt repeatedly uppercutting a man in the fetal position is department protocol.
Just an observation. His pants were on in the video. I leave the rest open for debate, but that is a fact.
You’re right, his pants were on in the video — but this is an edited tape and I’m sure there is earlier video of him walking around naked. The Rabbi even admits it.
Editing? You mean like the Rodney King tape? Or like B’tzelem videos? Well, anyway. I stop caring about these incidents as soon as they mention lawsuits. Had 18 years of plaintiff work, and am glad to be shut of it.
Not that kind of editing. This is a security camera that runs 24/7 but you’re only seeing 7 minutes of it. It starts with the police standing at the couch.
However start the tape 20 minutes earlier and they would probably see the confrontation he had with the security guard when he was apparently told to put your pants on and refused.
I dunno, if my spouse gave a drunk friend permission to sleep it off in the den, but the next morning he was still drunk, refusing to put his pants on and leave.... I’d call the cops to come pick up the body.
I don’t care who gave prior permission, it’s not forever and it lapses pretty damn fast if you’re nekkid, drunk and belligerent.
Well, I should hope he would refuse. I’m short and fat he’s tall and slim, and it would take at least a day to fly in my pants via JFK, and besides, I need them.
Ha!
