My employer (TxDOT) is requiring a xerox copy of my CHL
Let them talk to your lawyer.
yes, and that’s why they say they need it...BS I know but I want back up before I break it off in their @$$. I’m posting a question to the DPS CHL site but thought I’d see if anyone else is getting messed with
Is the fact that you have a CHL publicly available information?
I am not a Texan so I have no idea what the laws are but:
I would guess that if you are going to carry on the job that the employer has the right to know that you really do have a permit.
Otherwise there might be employees carrying on the job who do not have a permit and if one of them gets into a shooting incident the employer could be held liable for any damages.
You have to remember that there are conditions under which an employer is held liable for damages or injury done to others while the employee is on the job.
Thank your employer for allowing you to carry and cooperate.
If TxDOT is going to allow you to carry while on company business I would just give it to them.
I'd also let HR know that I had turned to question over to counsel, and I will respond when I hear back from him.
It's very important to not let burro-craps bully you into anything, and let them know they won't.
But if they have law and regulation on their side, and your job is at risk, then it's a gut check.
I can walk away from pretty much any situation, but some folks have mortgages, payments, etc... and can't do that.
Asking questions instead of telling them to get bent is probably a good idea. ;)
I think that's who pays for State Troopers, if I'm not mistaken... It's a large, sprawling agency...
So yeah, they probably have legitimate access to the CHL records.
you aren’t going to break off anything, that will get you exactly nowhere. You are on the government payroll and better say how high when they say jump. They are exempt from suit and you, unfortunately, are powerless.
yeah bull sheet, peons don’t dictate to state agencies
Just give TXDOT a picture of a shovel standing up by it’s self.
They will give you a raise since the can get rid of the three guys that are usually standing around looking at it.
Lots of folks around here don't just bend over when told to. I don't know how it works in your state.
For once, this is a positive thing. TxDOT is now allowing CHL holders to carry at the workplace.
If you don’t want to disclose your CHL, just tell them you have no plans to carry on the job or in a TxDOT vehicle. Having a copy of your CHL is for reference if you plan to carry at work.
Call your govemor. Someone is getting abead of themselves.
Actually, you don’t even have to show it to a peace officer anymore. (But, they will know you have one if they run your ID.) My local CHL instructor says you don’t have to show it to anybody.
Dang I thought it was Central Hockey League.
Ft. Worth is in 3rd place.
What harm do you imagine will come to you from your giving them copy of your license? Especially if it is given in the context of them allowing you to carry on the job?
“They” are not allowing me to carry on the job, the law is. It’s a matter of principal, they don’t the authority under the law.
