We should have supported Kurdistan independence when we originally moved into Iraq, and should be doing so now.
The Kurds are unusually wise about many things, especially alliances. They know they are surrounded by serious enemies, and so tried hard to cultivate good relations with the US. And discreetly, with Israel, who they have allowed ground passage to Iran.
So this being said, the best way to become friendly with them is to support their self defense. This is a golden opportunity for Christians to develop a safe haven.
The Kurdish Peshmerga, or fighters, is rather large and probably stretched as far as basic military equipment goes. So the Christians could help make themselves appreciated by importing surplus military gear.
