Social media has been a crucial platform for people to voice their opinions on the gun control debate, but did Ohio's state board of education president take her personal views too far?
According to the Columbus Dispatch, Debe Terhar posted a photo of Adolf Hitler with an anti-gun control message on her personal Facebook page last weekend. While Terhar told the paper she regrets the post and was not comparing President Barack Obama to Hitler, Ohio Democrats are now calling for her resignation.
Shouldn’t Obama regret being like Hitler than someone else calling him on it?
Should State School Board President Debe Terhar resign?

I support her rights as a citizen to say what she wants on her own time, using her own resources in a public forum outside of the classroom and off the school property.
If her employer was in any way a private school, my opinion of HER rights do not change. However my opinion of her employer’s rights - their right to protect THEIR private views on how they want their students taught, might include their right to tell their students that the view the teacher expressed publicly is not a view they teach, not a view to be taught in THEIR school - if that were the case, and if that was their wish.
However, if her employer is a public school, which I believe it is, they are not representatives of any private view on the issue, they work for all the citizens represented by the parents of their students, and cannot pick and choose which of the parents they will support on such an issue and which they will not. The government cannot discriminate on this issue - you can; a private entity can.
We have a BIG BIG problem with our out of control arrogant PUBLIC education industrial establishment, who now thinks their writ, their mandate over the lives of students and teachers extends to the private lives of students and teachers. It doesn’t.
If a student “bullies” another student in their behavior on school time, on school grounds or while off school grounds but under the control of the school administration, the school can rightly discipline a student for it. What is done in the private lives of the students is up to parents and other public authorities to deal with, as necessary and if needed - it is none of schools f&^%$$ng business. Students are NOT wards of the public school or “citizens” of the public school. The public school is not in charge of their lives; it is employed ONLY for purposes of academic education.
A public school’s mandate over behavior of students and teachers extends to school time, school property and school activities run by the school off of school property and no further.
Getting a FB account was the first infraction.
Being stupid enough to post on it was another.
As I see it she angered the Dimocrats by using Hitler as an example. Silly rabbit! Only Dimocrats are allowed to compare anything or anyone to Hitler.
It’s not fair to compare Obama to Hitler.
Hitler didn’t lie about his intentions.
I’d bet they wouldn’t be protesting if she posted a picture of “Bushitler”.
