Rhode Island House easily passes gay marriage bill

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Rhode Island House of Representatives on Thursday overwhelmingly passed legislation to allow gays and lesbians to marry in the only New England state where they can't.

The House voted 51-19 after an often emotional debate that touched on civil rights, religion and the nature of marriage. The bill now moves to the Senate, where both supporters and opponents of gay marriage say it is difficult to predict the bill's fate.

"This has been a long journey," said House Speaker Gordon Fox, who is gay and supported same-sex legislation when it was first introduced in 1997. "Today is a great day. Today ... we stand for equality, we stand for justice."

Thursday's vote posed the most significant challenge yet for gay marriage in Rhode Island. While the five other New England states already allow gay couples to marry, attempts have fallen flat in this heavily Catholic state.

"I wanted to be here to see it," said 70-year-old Warwick resident Ken Fish, who is gay. Fish showed up at the Statehouse hours early to ensure he had a seat in the crowded viewing gallery. "Go back 10 years, even five years, and I wasn't sure we'd ever get here. We're not done yet, but this is a big one."

Nine states and the District of Columbia now allow gay and lesbian couples to marry.

From the article:

We're not done yet, but this is a big one.

For those who wish to pervert the culture, it shall never be enough.

How about legalizing polygamy, too. That way you can have a female and a male wife. Or two female wives who are also married to each other. Think of the three-way sex.

Don’t be so sure. Insofar as this is about anything except showboating, it’s about getting other people’s kids.

Marriage is of a unique, sublime, ineffable nature. It is a God-breathed mystery. It is among His greatest gifts to mankind, the nexus of His eternal plan and all true, lasting, earthly riches. It is the foundational building block of all decent civic, governmental institutions. It is the basis of all true economics. It breeds peace and prosperity. It is the great stabilizer of civilizations. It is the well-spring and nursery of posterity. It must be protected, or America will fail and fall.

There are things that I have “passed easily” that are equally disgusting.

I don't regard faggot marriage as the cause of our decline, but rather a symptom of a horribly corrupted society.

Several cultures accepted homosexuality, the late Roman, high islamic, England in the 1930s. They were also societies in decline.

But, never before in history, not until recently have supposedly civilized people accepted fag marriage. I fear God's wrath.

Although I don’t agree with it, if the majority of people RI decides to pass “gay marriage” (an oxymoron like “gay rights”), they may not have a moral right, but they do have a legal right to do so. If I lived there I would seriously consider moving to a Christian conservative state.

“I fear God's wrath.”

Considering what Christians did to marriage through unrepentant adultery and divorce, I would have to say that homosexuals will be waiting in line for awhile.

Rhode Island’s Governor Lincoln Chafee said he would veto a bill that was introduced that would have allowed the residents of Rhode Island to actually vote on whether or not they wanted fake marriage put into law. He wanted the RI General Assembly to be the one to decide. http://www.renewamerica.com/columns/miller/130122

Oh, no, we can’t let the people vote on this! We’re going to ram it through, instead!

Sickening.

The support for homosexual “marriage” has made its way into many churches. The meme goes like this - Jesus loves you no matter what and so it is all okay because love trumps everything. That is the thought process that is spreading in several churches.

“Marriage is of a unique, sublime, ineffable nature. It is a God-breathed mystery. It is among His greatest gifts to mankind, the nexus of His eternal plan and all true, lasting, earthly riches. It is the foundational building block of all decent civic, governmental institutions.”

“Now, since the family and human society at large spring from marriage, these men will on no account allow matrimony to be the subject of the jurisdiction of the Church. Nay, they endeavor to deprive it of all holiness, and so bring it within the contracted sphere of those rights which, having been instituted by man, are ruled and administered by the civil jurisprudence of the community. Wherefore it necessarily follows that they attribute all power over marriage to civil rulers, and allow none whatever to the Church; and, when the Church exercises any such power, they think that she acts either by favor of the civil authority or to its injury. Now is the time, they say, for the heads of the State to vindicate their rights unflinchingly, and to do their best to settle all that relates to marriage according as to them seems good.”

Pope Leo XIII, 1880

To the state in the modern era, marriage is simply whatever judges, pols, or 51% of the voting public think it is at any one time. That’s it, that’s all it can be. It can coincide with the actual version, or depart from it.

and we should FORCE them to divy up their assets, not just their asses, when they separate...the odd man out should get half of the others pension, and should get health care benefits as well....

lets just make them live by their demands....
