Sheriff David Clarke: Residents should arm themselves with guns, 911 not best option
Milwaukee J-S ^ | 25 jan 2013 | Bruce Vielmetti

In his latest radio spot, Milwaukee County Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr. tells residents personal safety isn't a spectator sport anymore, and "I need you in the game."

"With officers laid off and furloughed, simply calling 911 and waiting is no longer your best option," Clarke intones.

"You could beg for mercy from a violent criminal, hide under the bed, or you can fight back."

Clarke urges listeners to take a firearm safety course and handle a firearm "so you can defend yourself until we get there."

"You have a duty to protect yourself and your family. We're partners now. Can I count on you?"

Sheriff Clarke is very pro 2nd amendment.

Its the anti gun mayor and police chief that are very antigun and get all the air time.

Glad you see it our way now, sheriff. Most of us here have always seen it that way, not just "now".

I heard this run on our local Milwaukee radio station yesterday. It’s stunning! I love Sherriff Clark! He is telling the residents of the most populated county in our state that budget cuts lessened the manpower to a point where this county cannot be policed well. He’s an honest man in a fight not only with the criminals, but with an unsupportive county government.

Calling 911 to save you from a home invasion is pointless. They might get there in time to write up the reports, and draw a chalk outline around your body, but they’re NOT going to save you.

With the crap going on in America these days we have to regard all unscheduled, unexpected visitors, especially at night, are suspicious.

Recently a thuggish looking black guy came to my front door, banging on it. Through the door I asked who he was, and he starting shouting gibberish I couldn’t understand.

I told him to leave, twice, he refused. Then, I chambered a shell in my 12 gauge pump, he heard it, and promptly left.

Right after it started, I called 911 and explained the situation....

THEY NEVER SHOWED UP.

I’m a single woman living in a rural area of a predominantly rural county. Our sheriff’s department has 9 deputies to patrol the entire county, which means that there are maybe 2 on duty doing their rounds at any one time. They cannot be everywhere at once and response time could be as much as half an hour or more, so you’re darned right that I consider myself the first line of defense in terms of protecting myself. As far as I’m concerned owning firearms is a necessity as much as it is a right. And in the event of trouble then any call I make to 911 will likely be after the fact.

Has anyone noticed that it is the Sheriffs that have taken the public stand on these life and death issues? Meanwhile, it seems that the Chiefs of Police have been hiding under their beds.

I believe that each of us need to find out what our own Sheriff thinks and let him/her know what we think.

Growing up the City Cops “Town Police” were called “City Slobs”, or “City Pigs”, the county Sheriffs and Deputies were well liked and respected as were the State Patrol.

By the way, Grew up in Rural Nebraska near a town of 8,000.

I retired from my Sheriff’s department after 30 years of service. I always knew we were loved more.... and for good reason. AND, we were better looking. ;>)

Nothing says “I don’t love you” like the action of a 12 gauge pump.

My dad had a Winchester model 97 in like new condition. I remember when he would get that out of the closet to go deer hunting, he would rack it to see if it was loaded. That thing had enough moving parts that were factory tight, you could hear it several hundred feet away.

I bought a new Remington 870 a few weeks ago. When I rack it, she sings to me. ;-)

a big city C of P is appointed
= = = = = = = = = = =
And any more, they are recruited so they are coming into a city with at least 1 person thinking the job should be his, there will be a ‘semi hostile’ force till you prove yourself etc, and yes, the C of P is definitely political and as Tom Selleck reminds us - I serve at your pleasure , but I work for the citizens...but at least he is a ‘home grown product’ used to the inner workings of the Department etc..
