Maj. Nidal Hasan, the Army officer who is facing 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder for the 2009 Fort Hood shooting, now wants to avoid the death penalty, according to The Associated Press.

Was his crime state, or federal?
If federal, he's going to have limited options. Think McVeigh. I know he refused all appeals, but he was put to death within about 7 years.
Unheard of in state courts.
And if he REALLY believes in his religion he SHOULD refuse all appeals.
After all, he shouldn't "recognize" American law.
He answers to a higher power, y'know.

His desire to avoid the death penalty should be given the same consideration that he gave to the lives of the people he shot at Ft. Hood.
No murderer deserves to be treated as if they have more rights than their victims.
